Each year, we ask or call for a traditionally published author and/or older YWO members to judge our Young Writers Award.

The following are the things we're looking for in a judge:

--A traditionally published author of novels, short stories, poetry, or a combination OR a well-respected member of YWO's writing community with considerable experience as a writer (usually someone who is too old for the award). We like an author to have a combination of fiction and poetry, but we are more interested in authors who read widely than authors who are active participants in every single writing field.

--An author open to writing from multiple genres (i.e., literary fiction AND mystery, SF, etc.) and/or multiple forms. Our members are a varied bunch. Last year, our winner wrote poetry and science fiction. This year, who knows? The point is that we want to make sure our judges feel comfortable with multiple genres.

Those guidelines are pretty simple, but important.

Other relevant information:

--Submissions will be emailed to you blindly.

--We'd like to have submissions judged within a month of the submission deadline. However, in the event of an unexpected increase in submissions, we will extend the judging deadline.

--We need a bio and any relevant information about your publications for our website. Why? Because showing our members where to buy your stuff is the least we can do for your labor.

This section may change in the future.
