This is a problem I'm facing. Basically, I'm writing a Fantasy Horror that is untitled at the moment (I'll post it when I figure out a title). It follows a modern Native American hunter of the occult who is possessed by an evil spirit that is urging him to create mass carnage to save his Grandfather who was kidnapped by a vampire (he becomes an occult hunter after the incident). The evil spirit forms when the vampire kidnaps his Grandfather and he chases after him. The evil spirit manages to make him claw the vampire's face (thus resulting in the vampire losing an eye), but then Tommy (the possessed Native American), in fear, attempts to fight back the spirit's control over his body. In his writhes of the mental struggle with the evil spirit, the vampire escapes with his Grandfather. Now, has this been done before? I have a bad sense that it has.

I don't think it's been done quite like that. The only thing you do need to be careful of is to make sure that the story doesn't follow the same sort of plot line that a lot of other novels involving vampires and their hunters do.
I do want to know what you mean by modern Native American hunter. Do you mean a Native American from today? If so, then the phrasing makes sense, but if you're talking about the 1800's or even earlier then that's not a modern Native American.

I mean a Native American from today. He's a descendant of the Cherokees, I've decided.

I can't say I've ever seen something like that before, but I don't read horror that much. Only question is: why is the evil spirit evil? It hurt his grandfather's kidnapper - that doesn't sound so bad.

The spirit is evil because, basically, it likes to kill things (it doesn't matter what it is). Unfortunately for it, it can only manifest in the body of a living thing and, seeing as humans are the most intelligent race on Earth, it decides to go to them. But, with that, comes a price: humans have willpower and they can fight it's control back with their own minds. So, it waits on the edge of the humans mind and whispers to it about blood and death and tries to coax the human into wanting to kill something. There is a reason why it does this, which will be found out in the book. I think I've revealed too much already.
