So I'm doing a fantasy novel and so far the place they're in is a large jungle mainly populated with reptiles. I've featured slightly changed versions of:

alligators - I call them "taglia" and refer to them as large and dangerous "water lizards"
Komodo dragons - Nia lizards (lame name I know) but I made them larger, meaner and nocturnal
I have a large "water snake" - even lamer name
and there will be dragons but not until the very end (they're hiding in a volcano -long story don't ask lol)

anyway as you can see I'm having some problems coming up with anything too terribly unique and even what I do have the names are LAME. Does anyone know any resources or links to sites that might have some suggestions or some suggestions of their own? since it's a hot jungle environment I want to keep it mainly reptiles

I also have:
lunar hare which are large rabbits that are nocturnal
more snakes but I don't mention any of them specifically besides the "water snakes"
beetles/bugs again no specifics
birds though I don't describe any specifically
I've also mentioned eggs and milk so I guess there are cows and chickens (probably on farms close to towns b/c otherwise Nia lizards would eat them.)

I want the world I created feel real and full and give the animals there names that don't SUCK so any help would be appreciated

I'm not sure about naming animals - that probably has a lot to do with what sounds right to you, and the feel of the world that you're creating. But looking up real animals that live in tropical environments will give you a lot of ideas! The tropics are incredibly diverse - there are over 1000 species of birds that live in or migrate through Central America, for instance. You might want to start with wikipedia, and then go from there: search for "list of (animal) of (place)". Then pick a bunch of species randomly and see what suits your world and ideas. Rainforest environments also host all sorts of crazy non-reptilians: lots of species of ants, bees and wasps, hundreds of bat species (all of them AWESOME by the way), bizarre fish in large river areas that flood.

One animal you might want to research a little for your modified alligators is the black caiman. They live throughout the neotropics I think, and particularly like the upper amazon. They're scary and mean, they come out at night, and they're really cool.

If you find a particular kind of animal that's interesting and want to talk about it, or brainstorm ideas for possible animals or for variations on animal physiology, feel free to ask questions/VM/PM me - I study biology and just got back from Panama, and love talking about animals!

awesome. I only know what animal planet tells me, lol. I'll have to check out the black caiman and bats sound interesting... I want to keep it reptile heavy because of the dragons that come later, but I probably need to diversify a little bit. I thought about adding some kind of monkeys but I'm not sure I'll have to see if it comes naturally in the text or not... thanks for your help!

Just don't overload your story with creatures that you'll mention once just for us to say "oooh, cool beans." and then never mention them again. Adding word count doesn't add story depth

yeah that's what I mean about coming naturally in the text... So far there hasn't been a lot of opportunities and I'm not sure how many there will be so I'm just trying to have ideas ready so I don't have to stop writing to do some research or brainstorming.

Think about the traits you want your creatures to have, then research animals that have these traits. Take features from several different creatures and mash them toegther to make your own creation. The find a name that suits the character. You could pick a word that describes a certain aspect of the creature, translate it into a different language, and use this as a starting point, if that makes sense? And like Bowie said, only include the creatures that are actually related to the storyline and mentioned often. If they're only going to be mentioned once, they aren't worth it.
