Les Miserables has got to be the best book I've ever read. It was by far the longest (1500 pages of Bible print! Unabridged). If anyone else is a fan, come and rant with me.

I can't believe nobody's done a review of this...

Anyway, this post is about how Marius is an idiot for falling for pretty-face Cosette over Eponine. Eponine is soooo out of his league, and she worships him, and he doesn't even notice! She deserves someone so much better than him! Oooooh, he's an idiot.

However, I must say that Nick Jonas has redeemed Marius slightly with his performance in the 25th anniversary concert.

Now before all you Jonas-haters converge on me--I am going to elaborate, but on my side of the world it is very late. I will be back, however, and I dare any of you to say that Cosette is better or that you don't like Les Mis!

I saw that, and even though I'm not a fan of the Jonas', I liked his performance.

I was thrilled to see this thread because I'm currently finishing up the last 100 pages of Les Mis...
I like Cossette and Eponine. I don't think they should be pitted against each other, and if you ever say anything demeaning about Marius again I will kill you as Enjolras killed Le Cabuc, only without the justice. (Unless I feel kind, and then I'll just rob you as though I were Thenardiar.)
I'll be back, but I've got to get offline now.

Abridged?

I like Cossette and Eponine. I don't think they should be pitted against each other,You're probably right. I can just relate to Eponine so much more. I think Victor Hugo is Brilliant. I'm rereading it now, and it makes me sad to see Eponine being mean to Cosette when they are both little. However, it makes her human; otherwise she'd just be some sob story anti-heroine.

I don't hate Marius-- he just gets on my nerves sometimes. It doesn't helps that Hugo psychoanalyzes him. I still find him very lovable, maybe even charming. Which leads me to my original point...

Before watching the 25th Aniversary concert last week, i had 1) never seen Nick Jonas or heard him sing, and 2) never seen Les Mis or heard the songs. I had no preconcieved notions, and i was completely blown away. Jonas sang excellently; he brought home the fact that Marius is just a kid in love, which, together with looking exactly as I had pictured him when reading, made me see him a softer light. He deserves his Happily Ever After, even if it's not the one i would've wrote for him.

No, not abridged! I hate reading abridged books! Especially when they're so good, they're worth reading all through. Moby Dick was the only book I ever read which is better abridged.
I've never seen the musical. I've never heard Jonas sing. I'd like to see the musical.
I'm actually not that protective of Marius, but I was in a strange mood when I posted before.
Now, there are reasons I don't think it should be 'Cosette versus Eponine'. First of all, Cosette knew nothing about Eponine; they weren't rivals. Second, just because they're opposites (Cosette is the embodiment of innocence and Eponine is the wretched fairy) doesn't mean they have to oppose one another. Third, niether Marius, Cosette, nor Eponine were the main characters of the book. Jean Valjean was, and he deserved it.
