Those of you who know me know that I didn't become an avid reader (or an English-y person) until I was college-aged. So, I'd like to know when you became avid readers (not someone who reads sometimes, but someone who reads a lot).

Feel free to leave comments here if you'd like to give more detail.

I became an avid reader when I was about eight or so. Can't quite remember. Before that I used to hate reading. I don't know why. I loved it when my mom read books to me and my sister (does that count, or no? :p), but I didn't like doing it myself. Then my friend gave me the first two or three books in a series and I really liked them, so I started reading all the others.

I really liked reading since I ever learnt to read. I remember 'reading' books to my cat when I was three . I would actually mostly make up some of the story, reading what I could but when I learnt how to read, I started reading to my mum...

I was 2 and a half when I actually became an avid reader (when I learned to read), but I was forcing my family to read books to me before that.

This is a very generalised question...

I started reading at 3, and from then on until 10 I would literally gobble all kinds of facts book.

Then we immigrated to Switzerland; then I had to spend most of my time learning a foreign language; so, from 11 to 12, I stopped reading.

After deeming (yeah..) my French as adequate, I started reading again, though to a much lesser extent than when I was younger. Blame distractions in developed countries -_-. Books are much more fun to read when you're bored .

Fact.

It started when I learned to read, then waned during my middle school years, then kicked back up halfway through high school, and its persisted ever since.

I bacame an avid reader when I was about 8, until then I enjoyed others reading to me. I remember distinctly that the school librarian gave me the Andersen version of the little mermaid, from then on I have been hooked

I started really reading in 5th grade. My teacher had a huge book case full of Christopher Pike, so I read one and got hooked on any one I could find. I'm a reading fanatic now.
