"my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since.

"'Whenever you feel like criticizing any one," he told me, "just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had."

Hello My name is Colleen (but I go by Callie.) I'm seventeen (eighteen on Thursday) and I love love love to write. As I'm sure most of you do. I run a Creative Writing Workshop at my local library and am currently trying to brainstorm ideas for a novel. (I want to be a novelist, but the plot lines... aren't coming to me.)

I'm also married and live in the Southwest of the United States. I'm excited to be here!

Hi Callie. I think what you're doing at your library is a cool thing. For the lack of incoming ideas, I would suggest writing prompts

Anyway It's good to see another fresh young mind here. I hope everything goes well for you, and either way, feel free to message me.

-gape at title of thread-
-gape at continuation of quote-

YOU WIN.

-gape at rest of introduction-

ALSO WIN.

Sooooo ... are you actually reserved in judgment, or do you just like quoting American classics?

I just really like the Great Gatsby. And I thought it was a great opening line. Unfortunately, I'm not reserved in judgment at all. My outlook parallels another Gatsby quote better:

"Everyone suspects himself of at least one of the cardinal virtues, and this is mine: I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known."

I'm glad you recognized it though! It is probably my all-time favorite and I like to reread it frequently and just annotate lines I think are wonderful

Hello, Callie! ^_^

Nice to meet you. (and hey! Another person on here that is my age! Thank GOD! I was beginning to worry that everyone was younger than me... )

Whoa. You're married? Cool. ^_^ I am not, if you hadn't already gathered.

And that's a cool idea for the library thing. I'd like to start that kind of thing, but they won't let me... *sobs*
I don't know if I can help you with the story ideas thing...I tend to just let my imagination run away with me... *sheepish expression*

And coolies! South US.
I'm an Aussie. ^_^

But, welcome, madam, and should you ever need me, PM me! ^_^

Much grinnage!
Miss Smiley ^_^
