No way! Nabokov taught at my college; unfortunately, I haven't read anything by him.

I hope to read Lolita in my free time sometime later.

And that's awesome! The key to good writing is good reading.

Ah I see

Anyways, I noticed that you're a 'Global Moderator' [lalodragon], which means that you have a lot of experience. In that case, permit me to ask a few questions, since you're the closest expert I've known so far:

1. Why is there a points system in place? Can't I just post a story?
2. How long have you been writing for?

Why thanks, and I'll find out about the main forums soon enough [from Emanresu]

I've been here a while too, so I can answer your first question at least since that was pretty general.

Well, the point of this site is to get advice and feedback on your work because that's the best way to improve as an author - in order for the site to work, you have to give advice to other people too, then. So the points system just makes sure that you give as much advice as you receive.

Does that make sense?

Okay, 2sh4r answered 1.-- long story short, there are always people who want to take more than they give, so they look to receive critiques without giving them. The point system keeps the community running.

2.-- I've been writing, badly, since I was relatively young (8?), so about 10 years. How about you?

Do you really live in Hong Kong like your profile says? except it's missing an 'n' there.

Eh? Why of course I live in Hong Kong...ah, I guess I didn't notice the error. But in all seriousness, yes, I do live in Hong Kong, as my profile says (perhaps incorrectly).

Well, now that you mention it, [The Enchanted Muggle], I was wondering if you have Facebook or IRC? That way we could contact more instantaneously. Same goes for [lalodragon], if you're there...

I use a fake name on FB (John Szeto), you know, for personal protection (Internet can be a scary place outside this thread!). Thanks if you take up the offer, and if not...then, still, thank you, and consider it a bit more.
