I couldn't wait until Wednesday to start the thread. I'm too excited.

Last year was my first year doing NaNoWriMo. I dished out a (approx.) 90,000 word first draft sci-fi novel called The Drifters.

This year I'm going to move onto realistic fiction. It's called How I Paid for My College Tuition. Our protagonist is having a rather early mid-life crisis as a senior in college, wondering how he's going to pay off debts and what the hell he's going to do in life. Inspiration strikes during a drunken party night and he decides to dress up as a '90's teenager and start robbing banks in said '90's getup. Complications ensue, of course. It's basically a love story of '90's culture and how young adults today feel robbed of those glory days, what with the fiasco of politics that occurred.

Are you doing it? What are you planning? I'd be happy to help cheer you on and get together preparing for November 1st.

I wish I had the determination and time to do it.
Actually I'd find the time, the first thing I lack.
My problem is that I always hang on those little in-between scenes, between the important ones, that I don't know how to fill up so I just stay on that and don't write at all because often those little scenes determine some details of the big ones. And then I don't write.

But I always liked the idea of it and overall it's a great thing for those who can do it.
Good luck to all who'll 'attend'!

I'm doing it. The novel I'm currently working on definitely won't be done by the end of this month. It's gonna be a biggie. So I'm hoping to finish it up in november for NaNo--knock out the last 50k or whatevs.

I'm going to do it, but working on two novels at once, instead.

you say this just so casually

Nano is not for me this year, I don't think, though maybe 50000 words of lab reports? Think I can do it?

Yayyyy. I was bummed out at how most of the people I knew last year were too busy to do it on the first year I decided to do it.

EDIT: Whoah, literally, I posted at the EXACT same second you did, lalo. Now I'm sad you're not doing it. Great job. You just. . .just. . . *sniff*

Oh.

This week I have had MAJOR ENVY. Envy of other majors, that is. Who have time to read books on the green or do nanowrimo. Le sigh.
But can I help it if science is so fucking cool?

Science is cool, and science as a job is even cooler. You have a lot of downtime. Like today I brought my sonic screwdriver to work and played with it in the lab while I was waiting for a reaction to happen. Then when I was finished, I read Frankenstein.

Light at the end of the tunnel! Except it's an awfully long tunnel with med school and that.
Maybe I'll take a gap year and write my novel and read Frankenstein (which I have not yet done). But I'm only a sophomore now, and nano is a distant dream.
