  • This section is for stories based around reality. Meaning, these are not science fiction, fantasy, or horror stories. Literary fiction, romance, mainstream fiction, and similar belong in this section.
  • This is a site for writers of all levels. Given that, we realize that it is too much to ask that all of you be experts in grammar, structure, and spelling. However, do the best you can to fix obvious mistakes. It makes things a lot easier for a person doing a critique of your work. However, again, this is a site where members can develop, so there is plenty of room for mistakes and learning from them.
  • All critiques should be constructive. Meaning that rather than telling someone that their work is a piece of junk, you point out things that need work. This could mean marking bad spelling/grammar/structure, or even addressing plot, character, and the like. Comments such as “this sucks” are not what we want for critiques.
  • Have a thick skin. Not everyone is going to love your story as much as you do. Be prepared to accept criticism and critiques. The overriding goal of the site is to improve your writing, and to do that you need to be able to accept the suggestions given to you. (No, this does not mean that you should automatically apply everything to your work. Suggestions may be right or wrong. This is why it is good to ask questions)
  • If you want specific things addressed in your story, such as plot, say so at the beginning of your post.
  • Use the critique buttons at the bottom of the reply box. They can help.
  • The same general rules apply here as anywhere else.
  • Don’t double-post.

These rules are subject to change at any time. Please be aware that actions in Stories (Realistic) may influence how things adjust.
