Carraka

Congratulations! Send me your Paypal info and what not and I'll get your prize to you as soon as I return from the United Kingdom!

Now everyone else should immediately congratulate Carr...now...or else I will hurt your faces.

Adam Callaway had the following to say about your submission: "Winner. Hands down. Great story. Interesting concept. Good bit of social commentary without being overbearing. Top notch characterization. Ending that you can see coming but still want to read, and with a brilliant last line. I could see this story published in any genre mag."

And now for the runner-ups, w/ comments (in no particular order):

GeorgeMichael -- "Interesting and heartfelt. Too many adverbs, though. Also, it felt a bit stillborn. More of a scene or a memory than a true story."

Fi -- "Good imagery. Very post-modern, Octavio Paz-type content and word use. Dying for formal structure though."

Rose -- "Good rhythm, albeit broken structure. Begs to be said aloud, like spoken or slam poetry."

Congratulations to everyone who reached the upper tiers.

And to everyone else: better luck next year!

I shall be the first to say Well done Carr In all the many years of talking to you, I've seen how much work you've put in, so I'd say you deserve that

Wow ... er ... money! And milk! Thanks guys.

You know, I cut 10% of that story so I bloody well deserved it. Actually, I did what I should've done. So word count limits should be made into one of those ten commandments. Can I post the story I sent here?
