Hi everyone. I'm technically not young, but I've posted a thread about a book I'm writing for people who ARE young, so it seemed only polite to come and introduce myself here. So...my name's John, and I'm a writer. Not sure if there are avenues here for older writers to support/encourage younger ones, but I'd certainly be happy to do so :-)

Next time, you need to ask permission from the admins to plug in your book.

Hey, welcome to YWO! Most of us who are "older" are in our twenties, and generally this site is geared towards the teen/twentysomething audience. Also, advertising is not allowed on the site; any and all unauthorized instances of it will get deleted. Please do not post anything promoting any website, book, etc. without first discussing it with Shaun or Andy, the admins that Bowie mentioned. Please review the site rules, and while you're at it, have a look at our critique guidelines.

EDIT: That said, if you want to get involved in our community by critiquing and helping out and then posting sections of your book for review, that would be excellent.

What kind of helping out/mentoring would you be interested in doing?

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome, and apologies if I flaunted rules! I promise to be good from now on.

In terms of mentoring etc., I've been a professional copywriter for 15 years, and I have a degree in English. I've written (for fun) for as much of my life as I can remember, and as I said in my other ill-fated post, I've just finished writing a novel aimed at 10-13 year-olds (give or take). So while I can proof-read and edit from a purely pragmatic "copywriter" stance, I do also love and cherish the craft of writing. Which means I'm my own worst critic, but also my own biggest sympathiser. And I'm happy to lend those skills, such as they are, to anyone that might want them :-)
