"This is my pack's emergency stash. Everyone knew where it was," Denali said in a matter-of-fact tone. They'd always had a plan in case there was a major fight between packs like there had been. "Desmhera's place is this way," she told him, pointing to a cracked, paved road. It was odd to her how there was almost no separation between the city and the forest but that was never really her concern anyways.

Faolan glanced at her calmly and flicked a hand in the direction of the path. "After you," he said cooly, ignoring her matter of fact tone.

Denali started jogging down the road, constantly pulling her too-big jeans up and trying to remember what the front door of the establishment looked like. Only about four minutes into the city she stopped, gawking as a man was thrown out of Desmhera's bar. She could smell alcohol on him from here and it disgusted her immensely. Why were humans so vile? She walked past him and into the bar, looking around for the kind but rough woman who she knew would take them in. She quickly spotted the woman and walked towards her, nearly being run over by a waitress. This was not going to be fun.

Faolan followed Denali wearily and scowled, not liking the scent of the bar anymore than he had liked the idea of going to Desmhera in the first place. He stuck to Denali, however, knowing she was his only hope for survival.

After about four minutes of battling with the rowdy crowd, Denali reached Desmhera. The woman took one look at her and motioned for Denali and Faolan to follow her into the back rooms. "What are you doing here Denali? You know what your mother has told you before about coming here. And who's this?! An opposing pack member? Does your father know about this?" she asked in a harsh, motherly tone.

"They're dead!" Denali yelled at her and started bawling again, running to the comfort of someone who was almost like her mother. The older woman paled at the news, clutching the young wolf tightly. It was a dark day when any wolf died, but an entire pack was simply a disaster. The wolf population was declining, and this was only going to make things worse.

Faolan stayed to the side, wondering what to do.
"I'm Faolan of Shadow Bane Pack," he finally said cooly, almost formally, "Denali brought us here because our packs have perished in a fight. We come here to seek assistance."

Desmhera gathered the small girl up in her arms and motioned for Faolan to follow her. Denali lrested her head on the older woman's shoulder, sniffles racking her body. This show of emotion attested to her incredibly young age and Desmhera felt a twinge of sadness in her old heart. She led them upstairs into a small, spartan-style room. It was just one of the motel rooms that the bar had for the many drunks that stumbled in and out of their doors. "Well, it looks as though you will have to live here. I am, in reality, now your legal guardian. Living here will not be easy for you though. In the morning you will have to prepare the tables, and at night you will have to clean the bar with me. It won't be too hard, but it will keep you busy. Tomorrow morning we'll head out and buy you some better clothes. The bar doesn't open until two anyways. You will have to live alongside the humans now, and my number one rule here is NEVER show a human that you're a wolf. I really am sorry about your packs. I was friends with the members of both of them and they came to an untimely death in a pointless war. I will see you both in the morning," she told them softly.

Faolan glanced at the bed before staring absently out the window. He hated being cooped up. He tried to find the woods where he had lived, but couldn't even find a tree. He pressed his forehead against the cool glass and sighed. He wished he could hear his mother's soft voice retelling the ancient stories, singing to him softly even though she was beaten mercilessly some days, and was dead tired most of the other days. He wished he could hear his father, teaching him how to hunt and take care of himself. He blinked hard, trying to erase the tears that had started forming. This isn't fair! I'm a wolf, not a human. I don't want to be cooped up in this bar for the rest of my life! he thought to himself, but he wasn't able to summon enough emotion to act on it.

(Do you want to time skip to their last week in a human school before graduation?)

(Yeah, sure. I'll start, shall I? xD"

Faolan woke up suddenly from a dream and looked at the calendar pinned to the wall. It was the first day of the last week of school, before graduation. He sighed and slipped out of bed. Morning, Denali. You better get prepared. Faolan told her mentally and started getting organised. He sat in front of the mirror, combing his hair into its neat, long, brown waved form. He pulled on a pair of jeans and a dark blue t-shirt with a wolf howling at the moon. He pulled on a black hoodie and walked down to get a quick breakfast and wait for Denali.
