Okay, I'm probably going to sound like a commercial here, but the Save the Cat! beat sheet is the best writing template I've ever found. It's actually meant for screenwriting, with an "ACT II" and all that stuff, but it works for novels too. The thing I'm talking about is on a website ( but there's a book you can buy that goes much more into detail. I've found the Save the Cat! beat sheet to be extremely helpful, and I really hope you will too!

(Yeah, that's way too much like a commercial)
