Hello, Peps, My name is David, i have been a firefighter for 12yrs and an EMT for 14yrs. i decided to write a book about my experiences with the fire dept and working on the ambulance on my days off. most of it is all funny and crazy stuff. i have left out the gory stories because i want kids to be able to read it, i got about 300 pages on microsoft word. not sure how many words that is but i wonder about self publishing and a company called Xlibris, any advice, thanks

Good Luck! I don't think Xlibris is a good one.

there are some bad reviews on the web. You can search in Google for "Xlibris reviews"

Thank you yea I found some reviews, sad all the scammers, but the guy I talked to at xlibris, was just to pushy wanting money, I read a lot of bad thing about a lot of companies an I've learned what not to do, but I can't even find a publishing co to pitch my book too, I can't seem to find much help either, I have asked several on LinkedIn an Twitter, no luck getting a response, I guess I'll keep looking an researching,

Hey! So, first off, welcome to the forum!

Secondly, I can't advise from experience, but there's a whole bunch of information on YouTube, if you want to check it out. It's a good starting point to base your research from. I highly recommend Jenna Moreci, who self-published and is enjoying some pretty good success. You should be prepared for some stark realities (which, considering your work history, you should be totally prepped for) and to be ready to promote your book like a mo-fo.

*double-posting is a sin & may the interweb gods have mercy on my soul*

Also, just checked your other post on the 'Suggestions & Feedback' page - 5000 words would probably fit into the 'short novel' category.
