Apparently the only way to set off paragraphs when posting fiction and other writings is by adding a line space between paragraphs, which although seemingly minor, impedes the flow of the narrative, and in particular the continuity of a series of one-line quotes when each quote is set off in its own paragraph. While presumably reflective of online practice, line spacing for paragraphs is a distraction for a literary work, and should be modified to allow indenting for that purpose.

Totally agree.

-insert gif from you know where-

EDIT: Can we also allow bolding (and I guess colour) within original posts as well?

You can already actually do this from the advanced reply box thingy.

Just highlight the first line of you paragraph then click the right indent button and boom:

It's generally more hassle than it's worth though. Which I guess is why nobody ever uses it.

Yeah that's why you have to only select the first line for it to work properly. :/

I remember we had a discussion about this yeaaars ago and it was generally decided that line-spacing between paragraphs was easier for prose and poets usually figured out their own way of doing it (like the pictures/whitedots) that were generally easier than extra coding anyway. Perhaps there's some kind of update for it now that works better though? -nudgenudgeAndy-

Consider this on the long list of things we want done on YWO. I think it would be nice to have a text function that allows simple text formatting. We'll see.

Just FYI: We are in the process of switching forum software, which will likely impact whatever changes Andy wants to make here. You all will be included in the selection process, as forum software tends to come with different features and bugs. We're just not happy with the new version of vB, and so we're hoping to change completely. More on that later.

This is something I've wanted to do for a while, but it's easier said than done because our current forum software thinks in new-lines, rather than paragraphs. Otherwise, I would have done this years ago.

But yes, I'd really like this to happen, preferably sooner rather than later.

I third that! Sometimes I upload my work and people point out how I should write in paragraphs and I am like i just did that!
