I'm very surprised that there isn't a thread about Duotrope yet - perhaps because it is impossible to avoid? In short, Duotrope keeps track of a large number of both print and online publications for fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. You can look up the basic guidelines for magazines, and because the site allows users to track submissions and responses they also have estimates of how competitive and quick to respond each magazine is. If you're looking up places to submit your work or trying to keep track of what was sent where, it's a nice alternative to making an excel spreadsheet by hand, and way better than just putting post-it notes all over your desk.

HEAR HEAR, I second this nomination. I've been looking through it and I think I might actually find a magazine to submit to! Hooray!

I believe Caleb linked me to that place once a few months back. It's awesome that you reminded me of it, I had it bookmarked but forgot all about it.

This was a convenient resource, and I'm disappointed I didn't get to use it for it's full potential now that it's becoming a paid service. Apparently it's been operating at a loss for a while now.

Eh, the service will die mighty quick now. There are plenty of other places to look at for markets. Will have to list those later...

Does anyone pay for Duotrope? Is it worth it?
