Poetry contest, yes ma'am.
Beginning tonight at midnight (ie, at the start of July 4) and ending the 17th at midnight.
Theme.
Apsis (link)
Or, if that's a wee bit confusing,
distance/nearness.
Apsis looks like a more interesting idea, distance a bit more open. In case you're wondering what apsis has to do with anything, the July 4 wiki mentions the Aphelion, Earth's point farthest from the sun, as sometime around now.
And to add to the inspiration, tonight, July 3, is the first full moon of summer.
As usual, PM to Arty, Peppermental, moi.
Winner and Only Entrant:

Spoiler:
Cosmopolitan stars on the top of sky rippers
I cry a little when I look at them
when I look and wish they’d fall
so I could catch them
I realise I’ll never hold them in my arms
‘cause they’re so far away
so high
I feel so low but
I’m so terribly high on the bridge
as I stare at the stars
and fall towards that great sheet
called a river
I get closer to the cloaked figure on the steamer
and further from the sky
like I’m on a locomotive
with one destination in mind
and the smoke keeps rising towards the stars
and relentlessly keeps going on vertically
downwards-
constantly downwards
and the locomotive won’t stop
until it hits the water
and I drown with it
embracing the figure
fighting the cruel distance
between me and the stars

Wait -
there were stairs?

thankyouthankyouthankyou. Take a bow.

Oooh this is due soon. I've been thinking about Carl Sagan's Cosmos recently, just discovered with great joy that Neil deGrasse Tyson is going to be hosting the sequel/remake series, and tonight I'm getting on a plane. Perfect poem storm. Anyone else submitting?

We have one entry, so I can go ahead and declare a winner, I suppose. Where have you all been?

Our one winner is up.
The contest is holding now, indefinitely. Why?
I don't have any finished crits from the previous contest, much less this one. This contest only had one entry. And I don't have a clue where Abi is.
I'm not starting another contest at least until I have the four waiting crits done/delegated. If you're dying for a contest, message me and we'll talk. Also please message me if you know where Abi is.
