What's the difference between the use of "toward" and "towards"? Is it like some kind of subject-verb agreement?

It's a US/UK difference. I don't know what the reasoning behind it is, but personally I think 'toward' sounds awful in a British accent--and 'towards' sounds equally weird in an American accent.

They're basically the same thing. Use whichever one sounds best to you. The inclusion of the S doesn't make it plural :P
