We can discuss this year's NaNo here. It starts in about 29 days. Who's doing it? I'm going to try and write the second book in my trilogy for it.

I'm getting ready for it...I've bought a new journal and everything, but I'll probably give up half way through.

Shaun

I wanted to try it this year but there's just no way. I've got too much to work on before then, school stuff included. Maybe sometime in the future I will get the chance. I think my main goal is to get some of my new work finished so I can edit and get started on the second book in my little online series. I know a few people are expecting it.

jordanisonfire

I've forgotten what NaNoWriMo is. Please to explain, someone. :)

Andy
10-09-2007, 02:26 PM
It's short for National Novel Writing Month. People acrosss the world try to write 50,000 words during the month of November. But you can't start the actual writing until November 1, although you can outline it in advance. I added the links to the first post.

jordanisonfire
10-09-2007, 03:23 PM
Two pages and a half of A4 a day, huh? I suppose I'd be able to do that. When you say "outline", do you mean plot it and devise a synopsis?

Andy

Anything except what will appear between the covers, you can write in advance.

jordanisonfire
10-09-2007, 04:20 PM
Very well. I'm writing the synopsis now. Will we be posting these in the Literature section to post on every day?

Andy
10-09-2007, 04:42 PM
Sure you can post it here, but to officially win NaNo, you'd post it at their website - it automatically adds your words. Supposedly. I'll probably post it at both places.

jordanisonfire
10-09-2007, 04:57 PM
I'll post it in both places, too. I'll open it up to crits, but I won't edit it until I've finished all of it. How do you work that word count that so many people use in their signatures? I've never figured it out.

Andy
10-09-2007, 05:09 PM
When you're typing a reply, there's an icon in the top-right that looks like this: http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m71/teenwrite/twlogos/wordmeter-1.gif

Click that and it'll tell you what to do.

jordanisonfire
10-09-2007, 05:21 PM
Ok, thanks.

Andy
10-17-2007, 07:40 PM
Anyone else doing NaNo? 14 days remaining! :writing:

Yesterday I finished the rough outline for the book. One freaking long Excel file...

Carraka
10-17-2007, 07:44 PM
I'm definitely doing NaNo. Even though I'm just continuing EC, I guess I should do some outlining too. I'm definitely not going through with my original outline.

Does YWO have a forum thread on the website? Or are we just going to discuss things here?

Andy
10-17-2007, 08:09 PM
Well, seeing as lots of other sites have threads there, we should probably get one, too. *Thanks*

I really really want to do this, but I don't knowhow to write novels so it'll be crappy. And in the email I got it said that we coul bother with editing and crap after November.

Shaun
10-18-2007, 03:56 PM
Well the object isn't to write a good novel or to write a complete novel, but to write 50,000 words in a novel. So, if you're good at short stories, or feel comfortable with short stories, just think of the novel as a short story with a larger plot line and more internal junk.

Quietus
10-18-2007, 06:43 PM
I'd love to do this, but I haven't any time to write recently...

jordanisonfire
10-18-2007, 07:39 PM
Shaun's right. I'm just gonna load up the crappy novel I'm gonna write onto a thread, let you all crit away, then edit it. In the end, I'll probably have a good novel. That's if anyone crits it. :)

Carraka
10-18-2007, 08:23 PM
I'll crit it if it's fantasy. Even if it's 50,000 words.

.... what did I just promise to do?

jordanisonfire
10-18-2007, 08:25 PM
Thanks, Carraka, if you get round to it. :) I'd best get the synopsis done. :writing:

Quietus
10-20-2007, 02:05 AM
Well, I signed up for it... first time for me... I have to get my stuff figured out for it now too.

jordanisonfire
10-31-2007, 10:10 PM
NaNoWriMo starts tomorrow! My fingers are itching to start. Just finished the synopsis. :writing:

Charlie
10-31-2007, 10:12 PM
I joined NaNoWriMo this week. I have got a different synopsis but is it okay to use characters you've used before but haven't wrote the new story?

jordanisonfire
10-31-2007, 10:13 PM
Yeah. You can do all your planning, synopsises and stuff before it starts, but you can't actually start writing the novel until November 1st, which is tomorrow.

Charlie
10-31-2007, 10:16 PM
Yeah but I've used a few of the characters in a different story, just changed everything about them. Is that okay?

Andy
10-31-2007, 10:28 PM
Of course it is, Charlie. If you're writing the text from scratch, then it's all good.

Charlie
10-31-2007, 10:33 PM
Thanks, I read through the FAQ on the site but it hurt my eyes. So its good to know that I have an idea to write this novel.

Imelda
10-31-2007, 11:27 PM
I'm rewriting Nikara. Again. It's fine. Make out of it what you will, it's your challenge. :)

Carraka
11-01-2007, 02:58 AM
IT'S STARTING TOMORROOOWWWW!!!

I hype about NaNo. My friends hype about Halloween. Yeah, there's candy. And costumes. I'm going to dress up as one of my characters one day. That might actually fit. Yeah.

Andy
11-01-2007, 03:57 AM
It starts in 1 hour where I am. So, I intend to stay up past midnight and get as much done as early as possible. :writing:

Carraka
11-01-2007, 03:59 AM
You know what? I think I'll do that too. I can't possibly go to bed right now, when instead I could be uh--

--eating chocolate? Outlining? Posting on YWO? Hmm....

Ichigo
11-01-2007, 05:23 AM
I'M SO EXCITED!
I've never done anything like this before. :D

Andy
11-01-2007, 06:35 AM
Me neither, Ichigo! But it's neat!

I stayed up from midnight to 1:30 this morning writing 1626 words of my book.

50,000 words in 30 days is about 1666 words per day, so I've fulfilled today's requirements. It's like having extra homework. :D

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 11:22 AM
Yep, it's started. Me write quick now. :writing:

Carraka
11-01-2007, 01:22 PM
I stayed up till midnight too! I'm at 2022 now, but I have a bazillion hours left, so I guess I'll be writing more. I can't believe I didn't do my real real homework yesterday. Agh.

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 01:39 PM
I'm at 2, 3000. Exactly. I was surprised when I looked at it on post count that it was exact. I didn't include the titles and the quote at the top.

Andy
11-01-2007, 01:58 PM
23,000, Shadow? You write very quickly. :P

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 02:01 PM
Well, about a third of it is from that old prologue I did with Gromm and the villagers attacking the Imperial soldiers in the forest. But I've edited it from the crits from TW. Although I've written 2, 300, it'll all be rubbish. So, hack at it when you have time. :)

Imelda
11-01-2007, 02:45 PM
I have written 223 words, and I'm about to delete them. :D

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO START! *Breaks down into hysterical laughter*

Carraka
11-01-2007, 02:48 PM
Hooray for my outlining! I'm in big trouble when I run out of outline. 2,635 now. Or it was like that, until my Subscription threads started interrupting me.

Aaaaaah breakfast.

Andy
11-01-2007, 04:12 PM
I have written 223 words, and I'm about to delete them. :D

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO START! *Breaks down into hysterical laughter*
I TOLD you you should have outlined first! :D

Carraka
11-01-2007, 04:13 PM
3,641.

I think I'll update every thousand, just to laugh at all of you. Maybe--just possibly--I'll reach 10,000 today. Then I'll do my homework.

Imelda
11-01-2007, 05:44 PM
Oh SHUT UP ANDREW! *Gets mad*

For the humour deficient (ie. Andrew and Shaun :p) that was a joke.

I do have a plan, it's just that the first scene sucked, so I had to change it and now I have the perfect opening that will ooze intrigue, mystery, and make people not hate Nikara right from the off. I now have 174 words which I am going to keep. So there.

Car, you are sickeningly good at this. Well done!

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 05:49 PM
I'm at 2, 3000. Exactly. I was surprised when I looked at it on post count that it was exact. I didn't include the titles and the quote at the top.

23,000, Shadow? You write very quickly. :P

Oh, crap, now I see what you mean, Andrew. I meant 2, 300. If only I could write that fast. Well, I probably could, but it would be the worst piece of literature ever to be born, so... yeah...

Carraka
11-01-2007, 05:54 PM
4,585!

-crows-

You just watch. I'll be freaking out in two weeks, along with the rest of you.

And I was scared for a moment there, Jordan.

23,000 -- So far awaaaay ....

Andy
11-01-2007, 05:56 PM
I'm halfway done with the prologue, in which a tragic hero appears and then gets killed, while revealing background information along the way!:)

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 05:56 PM
Carraka, the point of having a month to do it is you do it within the month. It's not a race.

Imelda
11-01-2007, 05:57 PM
Actually it is. The first person to reach 50,000 gets honoured above all others. And if you get the highest word count for the month ... You get worshipped/hated.

Carraka
11-01-2007, 05:59 PM
Yeah ....

I guess I'm just happy that I am writing, because I was afraid that I would write 200 words, and then stop, and then cry in a corner or something. So sorry if I seem overtly pleased with myself. This was, after all, a section of the book that I was struggling with.

Until, um, now.

ooo--a tragic hero? Does he have anagnorisis?

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 06:01 PM
Well, despite that, I'm not in it for glory. I want to write a good novel but within the time limit, to challenge myself. Plus, this way, I can't stop when I've just started and then start over again, like I used to do so many times.

Andy
11-01-2007, 06:01 PM
ooo--a tragic hero? Does he have anagnorosis?
Sort of. You misspelled it, BTW. That last o should be an i or an e.

Imelda's right. It is a race. Except the person who writes nonstop and doesn't sleep from Nov. 1 through 4 is excluded from competing. :)

Carraka
11-01-2007, 06:02 PM
My English teacher told me yesterday it was supposed to be spelled with an 'o'.

Ah well, I'll just do it that way for the essays.

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 06:04 PM
Even if I worked non-stop, I doubt I'd finish before anyone else in this world. Those who do write non-stop to get first are sad, sad people. Seriously, I pity them.

Carraka
11-01-2007, 06:08 PM
If I stop every hundred words to post on YWO, that means I'm not working nonstop, right?

xD Yeah, I think I'm also in this to write the 50,000 words. I want to start writing deaths, instead of moaning about my poor character development.

Imelda
11-01-2007, 06:20 PM
Yeah ....

I guess I'm just happy that I am writing, because I was afraid that I would write 200 words, and then stop, and then cry in a corner or something. So sorry if I seem overtly pleased with myself. This was, after all, a section of the book that I was struggling with.

I'm going to write 200 words and then cry in a corner. :D

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 06:21 PM
I didn't know you could smile really big while crying, Imelda.

Carraka
11-01-2007, 06:22 PM
Actually, there are no corners in my room that I can cry in. Everything is full of books, clothing, and crumpled homework.

I cry on my bed. xDD I'm also writing on my bed right now. Laptops. Yum.

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 06:23 PM
I didn't know laptops were edible. :P

Andy
11-01-2007, 06:24 PM
Your room sounds like a college dorm room, a place so messy, and so small, you can cry in two corners at once.

I don't cry. Except for certain movie endings. Old Yeller is one of them.:)

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 06:25 PM
Has anyone here seen Armageddon. Apparently, everyone cries at the end, but I've never seen it.

Carraka
11-01-2007, 06:27 PM
If I don't cry every week, it's probably because I'm dead. I used to cry much more though, (back in 7th grade,) so I think I'm getting much better.

--so you live in a college dorm room now? I can't wait.

Laptops aren't edible. But they're fun to lick.

EDIT; Nope, haven't seen it. -adds it to list of movies to see some day for no particular reason-

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 06:28 PM
I'm very scared now. You lick your laptop. :O

Imelda
11-01-2007, 06:29 PM
Laptops are edible to some.

Car, your room sounds like mine. :p I usually cry behind my door where no one can bother me. :p

Andy
11-01-2007, 06:30 PM
This thread got off-topic fast. :glare:

So, is everyone just aiming for 50,000? Or are some of you aiming for less or more?

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 06:30 PM
I'm bewildered at how many people cry. I guess I'm a lifeless shell...

Ok, didn't see Andrew's post. Um, yeah, I want to reach it, but I doubt I will. I'll probably give up half way through.

We need another chatroom, Andrew.

Carraka
11-01-2007, 06:33 PM
I only lick my laptop on Sundays.

Shouldn't everyone be aiming for 50,000? As that is the point of NaNoWriMo? And that is what this thread is about? I mean, my eventual goal is to finish EC, and that might happen this month, but right now I'm just aiming for 50,000.

jordanisonfire
11-01-2007, 06:35 PM
I'm aiming for 50, 000 within the month. Afterwards, I'm just gonna write about up to 150, 000, if I can manage.

Quietus
11-01-2007, 06:38 PM
I'm aiming to just get some writing done.... It's been forever since I have...

Carraka
11-01-2007, 06:39 PM
How do you know how long your novel's going to be? Originally, I did calculations. Since I have most of EC outlined, I would say--huh--each scene is about 1,000 words. I have 100 scenes. That makes 100,000 words! But it's wildly inaccurate, as everything keeps changing, and everything I'm writing right now was not in my original plan.

Imelda
11-01-2007, 06:46 PM
I'm aiming for 50,000 as that's about the amount I have to rewrite. Then there are the minor edits on later parts of the book. I hope to be done and ready for re-critting by 2008, then I can focus on The-Book-That-Hates-Me.

GeorgeMichael
11-05-2007, 03:21 AM
I'm going to rewrite my story from the beginning and hope that I can do it this time. I'm not going to submit it to the NaNo website since it's not really following the rules but I will try to use it as a goal to reach the NaNo 50,000 on High School Weekend. Here come some serious rewrites based on critiques. By the way if anyone would like a critique on their NaNo stories then just ask, always happy to help someone better their story that may reach to goal.

Ichigo
11-05-2007, 04:19 AM
So I didn't write anythign today....
I'm having problems with dialogue....and action.
I learned today I like writing poeticly, and NOVELS arn't for me.
But this is jsut going to be one crap novel, cause I'm NOT giving up.

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 05:06 PM
I'm a novelist and nothing else. I tried writing poetry, ended up as cliché emo crap and it wasn't even good cliché emo crap. Tried with lyrics, exactly the same thing happened. Can't write Short Stories because I don't do the sort of cramming in stuff that you do with them that you don't do in novels. So... yeah... bit of useless information about me for you there.

Carraka
11-05-2007, 07:45 PM
I am not just a
novelist but also an
awesome poet. Rawr.

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 07:56 PM
Lucky you. I wanted to put lots of poems and songs into my books like Tolkien did, but I have no idea how I'm going to do that. All I have is the Druidic Code, which cannot count for poetry or a lyric.

Carraka
11-05-2007, 08:02 PM
...you really thought that was a good haiku?

I'm flattered! I guess I'm a poet after all. xD

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 08:03 PM
That was Haiku? Man, I'm not only terrible at poetry, I'm even bad at recognising it.

Carraka
11-05-2007, 08:05 PM
Fine. Let's try again.

My mother was a hen.
My father was a rooster.
I was a little chick and
I was not a goose-ter.

How's that? Recognizable as poetry?

Imelda
11-05-2007, 08:30 PM
Car, you're taking that too far. :p

Carraka
11-05-2007, 08:33 PM
Car--and far!

You're a poet too! Yaaaay! This is awesome. I've discovered a new talent.

(I can recognize poetry too.)

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 09:16 PM
It is official! I have decided to give up on NaNoWriMo. However, I will concede that I will write every day, but not 1667 words. Maybe half.

Carraka
11-05-2007, 09:21 PM
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

How do you guys do it to yourself? I'm amazed. For me, this is the only time of the year when I can guarantee that my word count will go up. If not now, during NaNoWriMo, then when?

Gaah. You're the second person, Jordan. x.x

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 09:22 PM
Second? Who else gave in?

Carraka
11-05-2007, 09:23 PM
Someone at my school. You don't know her. But I think she had a better reason. Unless you also are thoroughly uninspired?

jordanisonfire
11-05-2007, 09:25 PM
I think NaNoWriMo is a good idea, but it's too much for me. I may sound pathetic, but I have a lot of coursework and studying to do and I'm hardly keeping up with them. So, I'll give up on NaNo and instead just write every day, even if it's just for five minutes or so.

Carraka
11-05-2007, 09:27 PM
...well, it's your choice. Unless I fly over there and kidnap you, I can't force you to do anything.

But if I win, I don't want to be the only one here, okay?

GeorgeMichael
11-05-2007, 09:35 PM
I'm trying and... you already have over 10000! Humph, well perhaps I won't wait for critiques and I'll just keep writing chapters. It can be critiqued when I'm done... I'll try to finish it alongside Car... I wonder if I'm up to it.

Carraka
11-05-2007, 09:41 PM
Of course you can! I haven't even written anything yet today. I'll probably start writing around ten, finish at eleven, and do homework until midnight. x.x

Yeah, and don't wait for critiques. I would crit your piece, but I keep thinking I should be doing NaNo, so I end up doing --nothing? --posting on the YWO NaNo thread? Yup.

Imelda
11-05-2007, 09:42 PM
You can't wait for crits during Nano, silly. :P

Carraka
11-05-2007, 09:44 PM
Imelda, I'm not going to e-mail EC to you until you write more Nikara brilliance.

Wait--is that a threat? Sorry! Um... gah.

GeorgeMichael
11-05-2007, 09:47 PM
Well, apparently not, it's just that I like to post things and I have several chapter outlines which I just need to add more content into and I want to post the next ones but if I post and post then I don't want people to think I'm just spamming or overflowing the thread...

It's not like I write at super sonic speed though :P

Imelda
11-05-2007, 09:49 PM
OMG! Car is blackmailing me! *Wails*

That might work if I wasn't dead tired and my laptop battery was about to die ...

Carraka
11-05-2007, 09:50 PM
Then just don't post? I've postponed all my EC posting on TW, so ... yeah.

-.- Your laptop battery was dead last time too. Start writing on paper.

Andy
11-06-2007, 12:16 AM
I finally caught up! Ugh, that took a while. Looks like tomorrow I get to write a fight scene. :)

GeorgeMichael
11-06-2007, 12:33 AM
Ok, chapter two redone and added to word count, time to work severely on chapter three...but after my History homework.

P.S. kind of off topic but does anyone know if there's any type of thing like a personal microsoft word machine that you can write on the screen and it shows up. Then later you can connect it to the computer and it allows you to upload it onto it. Is there such a wonderful object, and if there is how much would said wonderful object cost?

Carraka
11-06-2007, 12:39 AM
Sorry hyper, I don't know anything about Word machines.

Looks like tomorrow I get to write a fight scene.

In two days, I'll be writing a massacre. How can your fight scene be more exciting than my massacre? Huh? Huh?

GeorgeMichael
11-06-2007, 12:47 AM
Oh yeah! huh, well in a while I'll be adding a very graphic birth scene, you all will possibly kill people and I'll bring life into this world. I win :)

Carraka
11-06-2007, 12:50 AM
Huh. I'm going to write a lot of graphic baby deaths now. In honor of you.

Kidding, kidding. Most of what I write probably won't make it on here. It would freak my parents out.

GeorgeMichael
11-06-2007, 12:51 AM
lol, how could you kill babies! well actually one of my characters kind of wants to, but not in all seriousness, it's just a type of quirk he has. He's my favorite character that I have ever created.

Carraka
11-06-2007, 12:53 AM
My favorite character can't kill. I mean, he really, really can't. If he stabs someone in the heart, the person doesn't die. However, the person does feel pain. Makes for interesting torture scenes. But babies are boring, because they don't understand what's happening.

Babies in front of mothers--hmm--

I'm so screwed up. Rest assured I would never do this in real life.

GeorgeMichael
11-06-2007, 01:01 AM
Hopefully...

11-07-2007, 04:22 PM
This thread makes me feel like a lazy bum. You're all... working! Really hard! It's hard for me to conceptualize the planning and effort that goes into NaNoWriMo. x3
I should definitely join next year. Or I could invent my own little NaNoWriMo for a future month.
Um... keep up the work, everyone. ^^ Okay good, now I feel like I've contributed.

jordanisonfire
11-07-2007, 06:10 PM
Not me. I gave up on the third day. I'm too lazy and I haven't much focus.

GeorgeMichael
11-08-2007, 12:54 AM
Great! I just got more incentive to finish NaNo, I told my English and Forensics (yes, it is as fun as it sounds) teachers that I was doing it and every day they're asking me how many words I have done and they want to read it! It's great to have the extra help, but it's also a lot of pressure, I hope I don't let them down...

Andy
11-08-2007, 12:58 AM
That's cool, GM! I did Forensics, which was somewhat fun. Keep writing!

Shadow! :( Don't be a quitter.

I have to do....2000 words to catch up today. *Looks at clock* Yeesh.

I figure I've written more than I ever have in my entire lyfe all about one thing, so I passed NaNoWriMo. I'm rather prud of my self, and I'm still going!

Andrew, if I want to catch up now... I'm gonna be up all night, let's just put it at that.

The year I won NaNo, I missed out 10 days of writing. It's possible, Shadow. :D

jordanisonfire
11-08-2007, 09:16 PM
Bearing in mind, you have entire days to do it. I have school and a heap of coursework and revision when I get home.

Imelda
11-08-2007, 09:19 PM
Urm, I have a job, Shadow. :P And the year I won NaNo is was full-time (7.30-7.30) at uni. I wrote on the bus home, wrote while my mum was making tea, wrote after tea, and wrote during lunchtime and while waiting for lectures to start. Don't complain you don't have enough time. :P

jordanisonfire
11-08-2007, 09:21 PM
Fine! I'll continue! But I doubt I'll be able to do it. But, doubt is your greatest weakness. I must believe.

Nearing 20 K!!! almost halfway there...

Zuzy
11-10-2007, 06:16 PM
I need somewhere to rant. XD Here fits.

I hit 20k on Tuesday. I've written 200 words since then. My dang laptop is at my fathers and I haven't a clue when I will get to it... I could still write now, but I'm completely at "Week Two Block" and it won't go. I would like to hit 25k or 30k something before Sunday >< ooooy.

Andy
11-16-2007, 09:34 PM
Time for a NaNo update! :writing:

How are you all doing, wordcount-wise?

Zuzy
11-17-2007, 01:42 AM
I hit 30k a while ago.... I had a 2,500k a day goal, and I kind of failed, but if I can get 43k by the end of Saturday then I will be back on task.

Why, yes, I am trying to kill myself..

GeorgeMichael
11-22-2007, 07:24 PM
I oficially resign from NaNo this year :(

Since Friday I've been at my aunt's house and I only get the computer for a few minutes each day, no time to write. Even if I write it down I would never get any real progress done so maybe next year I'll be better prepared, this whole ten days of vacation (I go back to my house on monday) just came up from nowhere so I was not prepared.

Well, good luck to the rest of you all who are making a lot of progress.

*sigh*

Andy

*Feels sorry for George*

I've got three days off thanks to Thanksgiving, so I'm playing catch-up. I wrote 4,000 words yesterday. Today I need to do another 4,500 if I want to be caught up completely. I'm writing some stuff about history and prophecies, which is new to my book, so it's keeping me motivated. :)

Carraka
11-22-2007, 08:46 PM
-glares at GeorgeMichael- I thought you said we were competitive?

I wrote about 800 words yesterday (in a word war with Shaun,) and I haven't done anything today yet. And in 30 minutes, the guests start arriving.

x.x I guess I'm writing 5,000 tomorrow as well.

I've finally got over 50,000! Its only because I'm ill and I wrote a load of absolute twoddle but I'm so relieved.

Andy
11-26-2007, 12:08 AM
Yay, Charlie! I think you're the first person here to finish NaNo 07! Great job!

I'm at about 38,000. I'll make it, but just barely, probable. :D

Carraka
11-26-2007, 12:29 AM

Andy
11-26-2007, 05:41 AM
I finally caught up! :) November 25, 41666 words should be done, and I just finished 41681 words! Of course, it's just past midnight now, so it's the 26th and I'm behind again, but I haven't been this caught up in weeks.

Nyx
11-26-2007, 05:43 AM

Rafael Domination

I'm jealous of Andy now...

...Maybe next year, I'll cheat.

Nyx
11-26-2007, 05:57 AM
How can you cheat in NaNo?

Rafael Domination
11-26-2007, 06:05 AM
There's a word meter you can use to type in how many words you've done so far out of honesty...I might just lie next year...

NO! I CANT DO IT!

Nyx
11-26-2007, 06:11 AM

Andy
11-26-2007, 06:30 AM
How can you cheat in NaNo?
Two ways. You can have a character have a flashback which you've copied from an earlier point in the novel. Or you could manipulate time to give yourself more days to write. :D

Rafael Domination
11-26-2007, 06:32 AM
Nice! I'll do that now...

Oh and Andy...you might want to take a look at my Sig...

GeorgeMichael
11-26-2007, 05:37 PM
hmm... flashback. I might just use that :)

What is the arena? Is that a game?

Andy
11-26-2007, 06:02 PM
hmm... flashback. I might just use that :)
"What happened?!" he asked the MC.
"It's a long story," said the MC.
(insert previous 7 chapters here)

:D

Rafael Domination
11-26-2007, 08:06 PM

Kinda...we get to maul each other around. Read the rules first. :D

And Andy...thanks for the tip :D

Woooo! I wrote a bit more than necessary today. If I can just do 1,500 per day for 4 more days, I'll finish!

Now to go watch FMA as a reward... :)

GeorgeMichael
11-27-2007, 03:20 AM
I wrote around 7000 today, now I need 18000 words and I have three days I think. that's 6000 words a day, pretty much around four chapters in three days... I don't really like my odds.

Carraka
11-27-2007, 03:28 AM
o.O

7,000! -patpat- I've never written more than 5,000 a day, except for um, once in my life?

Imelda
11-27-2007, 08:58 AM

Ok four days left, right now I'm three thousand words into chapter eight. ( I started today) and I need two thousand more to reach the five thousand a day goal that can help me reach 50000,

wish me luck :)

Rafael Domination
11-28-2007, 01:30 AM
I'm at 12000...

And most of the words I wrote were kinda like this:

'The Geist was very, very, very, very.very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very big, and it's first left eye, and second left eye and third left eye and...'

I told myself I'd write 3,000 words today. It's two hours before my "bedtime" and I haven't written a single word.

Thanks for reminding me of my duty.

I'm going to kill my music, my internet connection, and my parents right now.

GeorgeMichael

Carraka
11-28-2007, 02:55 AM
Thanks, all. I told myself I'd take a break when I reached a thousand, so that's what I'm doing right now.

It can't be a very long break though.

GeorgeMichael
11-29-2007, 01:50 AM
quick question. Do you all think that 50,000 words is enough for the whole novel. Becuase I'm thinking about maybe ending it sooner that originally planned but I'm not sure if it's enough. I would most likely expand it later anyways but I have an ending in mind and I could, if I needed to, get to it in an acceptable manner. Do you all think it's enough to actually end it at around 50 g?

Andy
11-29-2007, 02:00 AM
Well, it's up to you if 50k is enough or not. Certainly it's enough to constitute a novel, but it should be as long as it has to be.

I've got 2500 left to go...:smart:

GeorgeMichael
11-29-2007, 02:05 AM
lol, I actually think I will get to the 50 K now and it's just that I want to have the ending out there and then come December, January, etc... I'll add more stuff to it. I'll think of these 50K as the basic plot of my story and then I'll be able to add more chapters within it to add more character background, more details and infromation, and more explanation as to what is happening because I feel as if one of my characters (no names will be mentions but people who read my story probably know who it is) is seriously underdeveloped and strictly one sided.

So yeah, I think that's what I'll do, I'll have the plot line finished and then add on later what is necessary.

That's allowed in the writing world right... :)

Andy
11-29-2007, 02:08 AM
That's what I've done with all my first drafts so far. Just write, and let the novel run its course, within the bounds of what I'm aiming for. And then second draft, fix everything! :D

GeorgeMichael
11-29-2007, 02:28 AM
Yay, that's what I'm going to do then :)

I finally passed the 40 K point :) I feel so happy that I want to have a little party, but I'll save that for the end of NaNo.

We should throw a party here to congratulate all who participated in this year's NaNo!!!

hint, hint. :)

Rafael Domination
11-29-2007, 06:21 AM
That cheat thing Andy told me worked out rather well...

I'm at 20000 words now. I'm just trying for the sake of it...

GeorgeMichael
11-29-2007, 11:53 PM
Yes!!!!

I wrote out my ending and it came out to around 6800 words and that got me to the 50 K

I did it!!!! :):):)

I feel so happy and accomplished, plus I really like my ending.

Now I just need to write the chapters leading up to it so I can post the ending...

I want to share it :( but I guess it can wait.

I can't believe I actually did it, This is one of the most accomplished moments of my life :)

Is that sad?

Carraka
11-29-2007, 11:56 PM

Okay, that's two people I know that have done it. I want to be the third person I know to complete NaNo. Good-bye world! I retire now to write that last three thousand.

And don't worry Carraka, you'll make it too!

GeorgeMichael

Carraka
11-30-2007, 03:28 AM
-hugglez- And just in time for my birthday too!

You need to change your sig, though. It's still utterly depressing. Even the winner thing is all text-y.

11-30-2007, 03:46 AM
oh, I didn't notice that, I thought I erased it :)

Andy
11-30-2007, 05:42 AM
Well, following in the already-established tradition of enormous red text....
