Have you noticed that, in Medieval Fantasy stories, we focus a lot on the European life in the Middle Ages, but not anywhere else? I thought about this and I've actually used aspects of Japanese life in mine, such as the weapons, architecture etc.
Anyone else seen this or is it just me being ignorant?

NO. The Medieval period has happened in a lot of countries, where the king-clergy-nobles-peasant hierarchy existed. I think you're being perfectly sane and original. ^^

your not being ignorant. This is the age most people know most about, I'm sure it would be interesting to write about the middle ages in Central America, but to write something good you need to know your subject matter and very few people know the middle ages outside of Europe and to an extent the far east.

Don't worry, I intend to study it. I'm planning on moving to Japan, possibly going to university there, and learning things there.

Study Japanese history INTENSELY. Especially artistic history, because it is often directly linked to their political and sociological history. Also you have to note that what was going on in the Western World didn't always affect the Eastern World. There might have been powerful civilizations in Europe during periods of little growth in the Orient. So what might have been the middle ages for some, could have been an entirely different period for others. Japan developed very late in comparison to China and India, but it grew rapidly when it did finally set off.

I have thought about this as well, trying to come up with something more original for a roleplaying topic on a roleplay board that I frequent. I ended up wondering about medieval-aged Arabia? I'll have to look more into that.
