View Full Version : Super Powers!

Not a particularly controversial (a.k.a not real) or serious topic but bear with me, it's time for some fluff.
If you could only have one super power what would it be BUT you have to still be yourself in your life. Having this one power doesn't mean you're in an alternate reality. You still have your job, although if you want to you can quit with your power but our world still applies. You need money, food, etc. What power is actually useful? What do you choose?

Write the way I dream of writing (but fail). In all of the languages in the world.

I'd want to control time, stop it, shorten it and lengthen it as I please :P

What do you mean when you say shorten and lengthen it?
I want to have the ability to travel where ever I want whenever I want. Whether it's from one country to another, planet to another, or from one era to another (as in, time travelling, in this case). It will come in handy someday (or every day). Imagine, having breakfast in Paris, lunch in Italy, dinner in Japan, sleeping in Poland, etc. :p

Rose, I'm having this conversation with some friends right now and I hope you don't mind I'm going to reuse an argument that I brought up against someone who said teleportation.
"If you were the only teleporter in the world, which you wouldn't be able to hide for long, you'd have people chasing you, and while it's true it would be near impossible to catch you, that doesn't mean that you wouldn't spend your life running. Teleportation is a visual power that every government/scientist would want to get in on and would pay huge money to obtain it. Bam your life becomes that of a fugitive on the run"
P.S. Ah, writers, your reason is much more elegant than poof I get to go anywhere I want and spy on anyone.
As far as time travelling.....please don't jeopardize our very existence XD
Also if you travel to another planet how will you breathe or survive in the atmosphere?

The power to learn anything just by looking at it. That way, I can get food, money, shelter easily along with doing everything.

I always had one problem with the infinite knowledge thing. Eventually wouldn't you get bored, because you knew that no conversation you had with anyone could lead to new information. You would know what everyone was talking about, if they were right or wrong, and eventually never have a chance to better yourself. I think that's how insanity happens, or at very least an isolated genius, which depending on your views can be a good or bad thing

I wouldn't know everything because I'd have to experience it myself. I'd have the potential to know everything though.

Yes but (and this is me going off of the first season of Heroes so bear with me here) that potential would lead to a "hunger" for knowledge. Once you know that you have the capacity to learn and you've experienced how quickly you can do it then you're going to start craving more and more, leading to that imminent downfall. Eh? Eh?
The only correct answer is 'stop-time' (that is, if we're going on the 'one power rule' and not lumping super strength in with everything. I'd like to be able to fly at super-sonic speed, but without super durability/ strength I'd be turned into minced meat.) With stop-time comes the ability to ultimately influence everything that happens to you as it happens, without consequence.

I hated it when I heard it but Jack's right, it used to be teleportation for me, but after having it explained to me I see that simply stopping time is the coolest power, and the one with the most practical application.

Unless you're someone like me who is satisfied with whatever I already have. I'd use the power to make the best gaming computer, write my stories to their best potential, and get the most money. After that, I'd be so isolated it'd be crazy.
Case closed motherfuckers.

EDIT: Bowie, you aren't satisfied with what you already have, if you were you wouldn't need that power.

@ Bowie, I dunno, I still say that an addiction is something you have to take into consideration. I'm pretty sure there isn't a single alcoholic or druggie who didn't start out saying they could control themselves and be satisfied.
@Jack, Touche. Touche.

You should watch how some jellyfish are immortal.
Like rania, control time. Everything's governed by it, and having the ultimate monopoly will... >).

What do you mean when you say shorten and lengthen it?
For example, i could do a 45 min exam in 3 hours cuz I've slowed time, but a Physics lesson would only last 3 mins :P

How 'bout, um, the power to make people satisfied with what they already have?
I mean, I would really just pick flight. But you can pick that one apart easily.

Quite a cliche question... But a difficult one nonetheless.

Jack, I have been proven wrong. "We" have been proven wrong.
From my friend, " wouldn't you grow older faster? Because your internal clock.is still ticking, so eventually all those minutes would add up to hours, then to days, months and years. Cause I highly doubt you would use it infrequently, so you'd end up much older than everyone else even though you're technically the same age."
He's right, the brain wouldn't stop growing.

A memory with fault. Pretty tame, but that'd be my pick above anything.

I just want the power to change myself into a better person and help the people around me. In that way, I could keep my job, mantain my life, and be with the people I love.
It's kinda lame, isn't it?

Any time my friends played games when we were younger where we had super powers I was always the shape shifter so I'm going with that. I loved that game it was so fun, for a game it had a good plot too...
