I recently got an email from PayPal regarding the security of my account:

Dear PayPal User

account you have been notified with this message.

updated in order to reduce the instance of unauthorized transactions on our website.
If you could please take 2 to 3 minutes out of your precious time and confirm your details you will not experience

Dear PayPal User (*sniff* they forgot my name?)

If you could please take 2 to 3 minutes out of your precious time and confirm your details you will not experience (weird new line)
further problems with the online service. (I've experienced no problems)

Once you have updated your account records your PayPal
services will not be interrupted and will get protected with additional security. (yes, I can see how updating my...records? - will lead to better account security)

sklep-gps.pl/images/secpaypal.com-secure-ISO9491/confirm/index.php

Take a look around. Notice how all the links do not work? Guess they're having downtime.

This is PayPal's real website (https://www.paypal.com/). Notice how all the links work?

So anyway, this is the first time I've gotten an email that managed to escape my Junk Box and land in the Legit Box. Pretty sad attempt at stealing my personal information, no? The email was from PayPalS.com, too. And it was such a simple email (no images at all), that I knew something was up.

I've left them half a dozen fake username and password combinations, as a parting gift. Losers. :)

Nice one. :p

Of course now you'll get more junk mail because they'll know yours is an actual email address.

I got the same email, Andy. You get them periodically with Paypal and all of them are scams. I contacted Paypal about it once and they told me that basically unless I requested them to send me an email for something or they were sending your account balance or notice of a transaction, anything else is basically spam.

I get them all the time from eBay. I don't have an eBay account ...

Even weirder is that I got the email on my calamire account, not the university account that I used to sign up for PayPal.

I contacted PayPal about it and they said they're gonna take action now. :)

Oh, dear! It seems my Wachovia account is undergoing a strangely similar situation.

They're a banking company.

That's the dumbest name for a bank ever.

You know, sometimes it's not nice to insult other people's cultures...

I'm not insulting your culture. I'm insulting the person who thought it was a good idea to name a bank 'Wachovia'. Banks are supposed to be sensible ... Barclay's, Lloyd's, the Royal Bank Of Scotland, HSBC ... sensible names. Good strong banks.

In America, Wachovia is a strong name.
