I've always liked paper backs for some reason, even though I want my novel to be a hard-cover.
I prefer paperback as well. They're lighter, and smaller. Backpacks are heavy enough.

Hardcover, all the time. :) Harry Potter hardcover... every single time... I don't know why I prefer it though.

Hardcover, if it's new and I-must-read-it-immediately.
Paperback, when it's not new and I-must-read-it-immediately.
Audio Book/CD, when it's George R. R. Martin speaking, and I must listen-to-him-immediately.

Paperback. Easier to hold/read/bend. And look nicer.
If I have a choice I usually get hardcover because I always manage to destroy my paperbacks in someway.

Paper most of the time because I tend to bend them. You can tell when I read a book alot because it is very worn out. :D
usually hardback or text files on the comp, but I read paperbacks on occasion

I buy more paperback than hardback but I prefer hardback. The problem is that hardback costs a whole bunch more and I am not rich.
I rarely buy audio books/CDs/DVDs/whatever and I will never use an eBook reader unless they magically make it actually look like I'm reading a real book. Until that time, not interested. I have enough problems being online and reading as much as I do on here...reading books on here...no go beyond the crits I do on this site and elsewhere...which I'm finally getting back into doing now that I'm months behind on it. I think I'm going to go completely nuts in summer and do a crit a day for every day of summer :P

They'd better be short crits.
Paperback all the way. Hardback are heavy (they make my hand hurt), take up too much space on shelves (which I don't have enough of already), and they're stupidly expensive (and I'm poor).
It annoys me that hardbacks come out first. :glare:

Paperbacks, because they're cheaper, and I never feel obligated to buy books as soon as they come out. I also tend to carry around my books, and they fit in most places, depending on the book, and are of course lighter.

Harback, they just seem so much better. I have a trait of accidently ripping paperbacks. :link: Seriously, all my hardbacks are fine, but all my paperbacks will have some or a lot of the cover ripped off 'cos I've been careless.

I get annoyed if I even crease the spine of paperbacks ...

All the spines on my paperbacks are creased. :D, you'd hate to see them. :D

Even my hardback books fall apart after a few years with me.

I like paperbacks for childrens books and hardcovers for other books and childrens books over 300 pages. Dunno why, It's just one of those wierd things I suppose . . .
Hehe, my favourite book 'the Thief Lord' got chewed by my dog, there is a word missing from every page in the corner, luckilly I practically know that book back to front. :)

If it were up to me, I'd go extreme. I'd read Fantasy novels off a scroll, and Sci-fi off a holographic computer...:D

Off a scroll? I'd probably rip it as soon as I picked it up. Accidently, of course.

Nu-uh...those papyrus scrolls are quite sturdy :D

Hmm a scroll would be quite fun except you'd have to unroll it every time you wanted to read it and it would get squashed in a bag . . .

I like paperback cuz they're easier to carry around and hold (not as heavy) if I read hardcovers as much as I read paperbacks the muscles in my wrists would be, like bulging really big.....almost like lifting 3 pound weights constantly....you will never see me without a book so I need the relief on my wrists...haha

I usually get paperbacks because they are usually cheaper and that means in the long run I can get more books :) But if a hardback is new and I must read it then I'll get it.

I love hardcover. When I read, I read constantly. So the book has to go through food, bathroom, outside, ect. Plus the covers always fly up if I let the book sit. So... hardcover all the way.

I usually read paperbacks. They're lighter and smaller, so they fit better in my purse. I always have a book in my purse which I take with me everywhere, so I opt for paperbacks.
And most of my dad's old Stephen King books which I steal are paperback anyway, ;)

I always ruin my paperbacks [rip 'em, drop them in fire, drop them in puddles, absentmindedly bite them.] Hardcovers are just more durable. haha.

All my fantasy and sci-fi is hardback (except my Lord of the Rings paperbacks, which have been torn, taped, wrinkled, dog-eared, and pretty much beaten to a pulp), but other stuff (biographies, memiors, realistic fiction) is in paperback. Freaky how that works, because my Bible happens to be hardcover. :P

I prefer paperback, as long as the print isn't tiny and the book is so thick that it takes a ton of effort to hold open. Otherwise, hardback.

A nice floppy paperback is soothing. It just is more serene than a hardcover. My dad spilled coffee on my copy of The Order of the Phoenix, so it smelled like Starbucks for a while. Oh well. I like used books.
I prefer hard cover because paper back books tend to get torn up at my house, but most of my books are borrowed from the library so I return them before my sibs get a chance to tear them up.

Usually, I get the book in paperback. If I decide it's garbage, I either donate it to the library (which I probably bought it from at the last book sale) or trade it in at a second hand book store. If I really like the book, I go to the second hand book store or a local library sale to see if I can find it in hardcover. If I get the hardcover at a reasonable price, I'll trade in the paperback for store credit. I'm very OCD about my book collection.
I used to get paperback, but I have a feisty cat that likes to chew on paper, so i now get a hardcover.:ninjaread:
I like both paperback and hardcover, first one more often because it's cheaper (and I wouldn't be losing double the money if I don't like it). But I also like the harcovers for being more durable and not having to wait for the paperback to get released.

Paper backs and hardcover. I tend to rather paper backs cause the hard cover is harder to open at the beginning and gets all worn out over time… Not to mention the dust cover always falling off...

Paperbacks are best because they're light and usually smaller than hardcover (not so tall). Hardcover can be good though; I have the LOTR in a hardcover tome and I love it. The problem is that the cover is no longer connected to the book. So... paperback all the way, if I can get it.

Paperback. It's cheaper and nicer to touch. Weight is also important, especially that I carry a book or two to school every day.

Paperbacks are cheaper and lighter. (I carry a book around with me everywhere.) I end up abusing my books (unintentionally) and I can do as much damage to a hardcover as I can to a paperback. So from that aspect it really doesn't matter. Also, I can't stand having to deal with book jackets.

I mostly read paperback and hardcover, but I prefer e-books. But, seeing as it's easier to borrow the books at the library, and the e-books tend to be the same price as the paperbacks (which you can sell afterwards), I don't get to read too many of those. :(

I like owning the book, so hardcover is okay I guess, but I prefer to bend the cover as I read (I know it ruins them, but I can't help it!)
