So, yeah, I thought this on a whim after reading CatAndHerPills's story plan post.

So basically, why don't we make a section dedicated (if not too much of a hassle) to critiquing story plans. I mean, it is the perfect way to aid writers create a well-planned novella/novel as critiques can point out if the plot in their story plan becomes too derivative or cliché.

Critiquing one's prose and writing style and critiquing (not -cizing) plot are two wholly different things, and I think that we can avoid a formulaic story by critiquing the story plan first.

This is both beneficial to aspiring noob writers (*cough*me*cough*) and those who have been writing since they were young... veterans with writing scars etched all over them.

Yeah, some will say that there is a thing called improvisation but as a starting writer, this art is not easy. And good imrpov. can be achieved through reading lots of books and through a lot of training in the art. Story planning will help writers see the plot holes, the flaws in their story.

EDIT: Furthermore, we can help those who are stumped, or those who are struggling for a good closure to their story. We can aid them on plot creation and worldbuilding. Thanks Jay for pointing that out.

Ok, I also think that this idea isn't stolen. I skimmed through TW and didn't really see anything similar to it.

Thank you for listening!
Julian

PS: story planning and imrpov. tutorial? :D.

I'm with this allll the way. I have a handful of story ideas and this would be great. 1. I want to know if they're good enough to write; 2. I might actually write them if someone tells me they're good enough. At the moment the fester in my notebook.

I think this would be excellent! It would definitely help me *cough*26 different plots*cough* and maybe some other people, but can't really speak for them.. Agreeing with lalodragon, I would like to know if these story ideas are good enough to bother with, and also how to change it up to make it worth it. Having this section would be a terrific way to do this!

I thinks its an awesome Idea. I can't finish anything for some reason, but I get to an awesome start off. Was actually wondering if I should just post the starts, and get people to take them and write out the novella's

This is a great idea! I imagine it will save some writers quite a lot of time; there's nothing worse than spending days on a piece only to discover that the story is broken/suffocating under cliché.

Haha, ya, I figured that out :P. However, what I mean by a story planning section is to give young writers the incentives to plan their work, a long and tiring process you very well know.

Indeed, without this sub-board or something, many young writers will subconsciously deem the planning process as unnecessary. It might be for veterans but surely not for those who have recently started writing.

this sub-board or something, .

A sub-board in Experimental. I like that....
True though, we may not need it.

A very simple story can become a pretty interesting book, if written the right way, and a story with lots and lots of extremely cool and original ideas can become extremely bad, so I have mixed feelings on this one. But I do have lots and lots of story ideas that I never began, and Im sure most people have them too, so I do see an advantage to this :P

I could most defiantly be helped from this. I started this story back in Fall 2008 and it took until last week for me to actually have an outline for the first half of the story lol

I like this idea quite a bit, especially when I think about critiquing. Sometimes it'd be nice to see what the writer wants to convey overall while I read, even more so if the pace is too slow and I can't quite get into a piece.

I am with Thoth on this one. I always have nice ideas, strong starts and then i either run out of things to say or the story is cliched to the bone. It would definately help to have a page like this. But i disagree with the others who say whether their stories are worth it and that others should judge that. We are independent people with our own unique ideas, plots etc. Only the author can really say if a story is worth telling or not. No one else. Also maybe the members here will say that a story is not worth writing but others outside the community would disagree. Better have faith in ourselves.

I didn't understand. Shall we have to write two critiques to get points?

I could use a story planning critique. May I start? I have a plan I'm working on and I'd like some advice on how to improve it...
