View Full Version : Writer's Strike Is Over: Are you happy?

So, it's over...it's done...the writers got some things and didn't get other things, but people are going back to work nonetheless.
So, are you glad? Did you want them to get more? Are you thinking "it's about damn time"?
As for me, I personally was against the strike from the beginning, not necessarily because I thought they didn't deserve to be paid more, but because I think the WGA is a horrible organization and pushed into a strike far too fast. I think any organization that blacklists you if you attempt to work outside their sphere of influence is evil...I don't blame any writers that tried to work during the strike. Why? Because I think between holding out for a cause that isn't that important at the moment and getting to eat tomorrow one should always choose the option that will let you be able to fight another day. Some people just couldn't afford to sit around for 3 months without making money. People like Joss Whedon have no qualms about it because they have the money to do it and I think it's unfair to ask ALL writers in Hollywood to give up any pay they might receive if none of those richer writers are willing to compensate them for the lost wages...
But, I'm glad the strike is over and glad they got some of the things they wanted. Now they can get back to work and actually make good television.
On a side note, after actually watching some Battlestar Galactica and getting past the horrible production quality I've found it to be remarkably entertaining show, although I would have gone a very different direction with how things were put together.

I am glad. The Oscar's were saved, my favorite shows will have more episodes around April/May, and I've agreed with most of your points on the writers strike. :)
Also this means that the plans for an Arrested Development movie will go forward.

...
MAYBE THIS MEANS THAT THE PEOPLE AT HBO WILL FINALLY READ THE PLANS FOR GRRM'S A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE TV SERIES AND GIVE THE GREEN LIGHT!!!

Uh, yes. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have minded too much, because I don't watch TV anyway. I don't even watch the Oscars. Or I don't ever remember watching the entire ceremony. Maybe little bits. However, if writers needed to work, this is good, and at least the strike did something. I'll just agree with all of Shaun's points, because he's informed, and I don't want to debate.

I just checked his blog, but maybe I should go check it again.

Well, glad to know we're all happy it's over :P. I'm just glad they'll finish out Battlestar Galactica, cause I actually rather like that show. Although it does fall prey to some of the issues of other TV series, which is rather unfortunate since such things could really ruin it.
