Hello everyone, this thread is eventually going to be able to function as a nice little note for the genre but I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on this. I'm writing a chapter right now to start a story on a Rom-Com and so far it's exposed a lot of the cliches in a... different way... bu they're still the cliches... I'm not going to have the guy or girl run after the other through an airport right before a flight though so rest assured :) I was just wondering if anyone could give me some ideas as to some nice or quirky things to add to the story and some Rom-Com cliches to poke at.
These are the ones I have so far...
1. The two main characters are opposites... It just seems to always be the case... no one cares about two people who have everything in common getting together... it's just boring... so yeah, opposites.
2. There are friends that are there for some sub plots/ comic or serious relief
3. They meet by accident... on purpose... accidentally...
4. different ways of living... (houses)
What are some cliches that I could expose... I also like how it comes out seeing as how the character... you know, never mind. Let's just list some Romantic stories cliches, necessities, and things that should always be avoided that are not cliches.

Eh, as always, I'm no good with romance, but I can think of one thing: don't make it a happily-ever-after situation. Make it a miserable ending. Not like one of the main characters dies in a tragic accident, that's cliche, but make it like say, one of the MC's old loves comes into it and the MC feels that that older love is right for them, but then maybe he comes back, but the other MC doesn't want them back and refuses them. Something like that.

All right thanks Shaun :) I was wondering which one to put it in :P
And Shadow... well, I don't want to spoil it... but it has to be a Happy Ending. I mean, that is like one of the rules of romance comedies. I do have some ideas, but it's not like you know, Romeo and Juliet like romance. me and Amanda were joking earlier and I was telling her, "What if they both die because they're hit by a bus or something but then we see them both in heaven together and they're laughing and happy..." Apparently that was unacceptable and they had to get together :P
Women

Ah, right, then. Well I can't say I'm not surprised, I have no knowledge of writing romance.
