Themes Contest

So, a few days ago I was really struck by the idea that everyone has at least a few passions for, I don't know what to call them, "themes". Some people are passionate about political ideas, some about rights, some about religions, some about just being free to be happy. And I thought it would be awesome to see how people turn those views into themes in their writing.

And thus I decided to hold a contest for it.

What I want is a short story (no more than, say, 3,000 words) that can be of any genre, from fantasy to westerns to, hell, autobiographies about something that happened to you; I want you to have a clear theme in it that details a view you have about, well, I'd say anything but it should be something important. I don't want themes about how you're sure you're perfect for this one guy/girl at school, ya get me? It could be political, religious, moralistic, judicial, social commentary

What I don't want is an essay debating your view. Put your creative caps on - how can you portray your view within a story?

So, to sum it up:

-A clear theme defining a view you are passionate about
-Any genre
-5,000 word limit

The deadline is May 18th, which gives us four weeks. If something comes up and you really want the deadline pushed back, just tell me and I'll work it out.

Also, just as a side note, I don't care what your view is, if it conflicts with my views or not. I'm not going to throw your story to the side because I don't like your theme.

I am 600 words into mine and it doesn't seem like it will come out as much more than 1,000 or so. Ummmm... I may need a day or two more than the deadline though. Is that fine or should I devote my entire weekend to this?

But the other reason is that I only got like two or three entries. If I were to pick a winner and a runner up, that would leave just one loser, and that would kind of suck for them. I was thinking I might do this again at a later time, get more entries and such. I never read any of the entries, so if I do hold it again feel free to revise yours and re-submit it.
