View Full Version : Patriotism
My lovely country (I'm not being sarcastic) (I'm being sarcastic about not being sarcastic) put up a new law that makes people have to pay a subscription fee for owning tv's, radios (actually this wasn't new, we had that one before, but they added-), mobile phones and computers.
Yes, because computers can be equipped with tv/radio tuners and even some newer mobile phones have those. And apparently media isn't free. Next thing they'll force us to pay for a subscription to be able to buy newspapers.
Because we're not in war anymore and people don't give their lives for the country anymore so they found another way for us to show our love: by giving them all our money.
It reminded me of that joke...
America: "We have George Bush, Stevie Wonder, Bob Hope and Johnny Cash."
Croatia: "We have Ivo Sanader, no wonder, no hope and no cash."
So I was wondering, do you love your countries?

Well... the thing is...
I wouldn't necessarily say tha--
I like my country... as a friend, not more. xD
Nah, I kid, I kid. Yes, I love my country. It's full of vibrant colors. :P
I live in England, can't say I've been affected by most of the problems we have over here. I mean, obviously the high tax price on petrol kind of rapes me a little, but I don't think our country is that bad. :sarcasm: It just needs to have a little self respect, we're far too generous.

I just like the fact that we get more holidays than America. I like the trees and the native animals too.

I love my country, and my continent (I live in England, for those who can't read my Location). I love the culture the most, but obviously, that's kinda degraded in recent years. I was born in the wrong era.

I'm pretty happy with my country. I love the space and the culture, although it's slowly changing, which is something I'm not really a fan of - it'd be fine if it was morphing into something better. But it's not. So... hmm.
But, yes, I love my country. Not to the point where I'm one of those annoying patriots who boast about their country all the time, or beat up people who diss it. But yeah. I think it's pretty cool.

Don't like it. Not to the point of hating it, I just don't like America.
There. Finally someone who doesn't like their country. :P

Meh, I'm not fussed on where I live, but I don't hate it. Northern Ireland, btw.
The people here aren't always overly friendly and I absolutely cannot stand Belfast accents. And there's still a lot of discrimination between Protestants and Catholics and all that jazz. I would say I'd prefer to live down south, but then again, all my friends and family live here so y'know...
I'm kinda hoping to go to Scotland or England for uni.

I LOVE America. I'm one of the super-patriot types, this is the greatest country in the universe.

Me, I like my country. A lot. I mean, when you house the largest mountain and national reserve in Africa and the second biggest lake in the world--not forgetting the spot where the earliest human skull was found--what's not to like?
The government, though, is another story. I mean, Tanzania is not poor. In terms of resources it is RICH RICH RICH. But they're not being utilised. Why? Because our stupid government keeps guzzling up the cash, that's why.
So I love my country most dearly (In a completely platonic way) But I detest the present government.

I love my country; I just don't like the people who populate it. Particularly: politicians and rightwing wackos who have no concept of reality.

I joined the military while O'Bama was in office, so yeah, loving my country seems like a given at this point in the conversation, regardless of who happens to be running it into the ground. Haha.

I hate Poland. Mainly because every day at school we learn about..."patriotism", "god, honour and fatherland (those are the three main values)", "home", "family", "faith", "poland", "poland", "poland". It makes me feel sick. Or, for example, we are supposed to "learn how to be good Poles, Christians and good Europeans.
But this is the worst thing, according to me. Once our teacher wrote on the blackboard...
feelings:
-higher (to do with patriotism and art)
-lower (practically everything else)
I though that I was going to pass out.
I am half English and I really miss the country, the language, the food, charity shops, the sea (sixteen hours in the car and I might get to the front). That's probably why I hate the place I live in so much- I keep comparing it with England.

No offence but... Thats' the most ridiculous I've read all day O_o
And I came onto this thread to update; after spending a week in America, I returned home and realised that I've subconsciously come to love NI. Even the Belfast accents. I was so glad to get off that plane and hear a Northern accent again. Not that there's anything wrong with American accents, it was just a familiarity thing. And America is pretty amazing, I guess I'm just one of those "there's no place like home" people.
I found it pretty funny how different the people in America are from over here. We're so resigned and keep to ourselves, in America strangers would strike up conversation in queues and shop assistants would thank us for coming to the shops. Over here shop assistants either ignore you or treat you like a criminal.
Also, I never truly understood why everyone called Ireland the "emerald isle". After growing up here, the amount of green just seems normal to me.

I live in England... I iz country like ;)
Erm..I like England and all but I think everyone is a bit..err O_o..Lazy?
I don't know...in my opinion England just has some slob-ish vibe about it..although on the other hand, I believe we are quite civilized compared to most other countries but we moan too much about what we don't have rather than being thankful for what we already have.

We're interesting. America. Rulers of the world, muahahaha! Although if we weren't, the world might still be in existence. O_O Odd idea, innit?
No, seriously, we're all right. I like it here, but I'm no raging patriot.

I don't mind my country. My issues with it are purely from a climate viewpoint. Too frigging cold.
That said, though, I do want to join the army so maybe I am patriotic.
