Sounds a bit like mine used to be, they were all irritatingly similar.
You need to sit down and write about your characters. Just the characters, one at a time - get to know them better. Flesh them out as much as possible, go into detail. Ask questions about them. What's their favourite food? Their lifelong ambition? Are they a "do it no matter what it takes" or a "stop at the first sign of trouble" type?
Remember, you need to know more about the character than the reader, so the things you decide don't necessarily have to be relevant to the story the character is in.
Recently I used this (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/showthread.php?t=5743)to "find out" a bit more about the main characters in what I'm working on at the minute. It's really simple, but it makes you think. I did it for five characters - beforehand, they were all a bit dull and monotonous, they all had similar characteristics and appearances apart from hair colour. This allowed me to make them into convincing people. Give it a go :)
Hope that helped in some way. If you need help with anything in future, look through the resources on the site 'cause there's a lot of really good stuff :)

I know what you mean. Your characters are all the same because they probably have the same personality as you or the kind of personality you favor.
You need to remember that your characters are human, or if they're not exactly "human," you have to remember that perfection isn't real. Your characters are all going to have flaws, bad habits, and some really unattractive traits, physical or not.
Let your characters make mistakes, let them be careless, let them fall apart and break down, let them be arrogant, let them be lazy, let them be stupid, let them forget things, let them gossip, let them complain, let them obsess, let them throw tantrums, let them be violent. Do whatever it takes to make them a real person with real emotions, not just poised, perfect robot people. Make them believable and "three-dimensional."
Another thing to remember about keeping your characters different (besides personality) is looks. If you've read any of the Harry Potter books, you know that all the characters look different. They all have at least one thing that makes them stand out from most of the other characters. That's what you need to do. Give a character perfect hair but a crooked nose. Give them a perfect nose but buck teeth. I think you get the idea.
Well, that's all I have to say for now. I hope I was able to help you, and good luck with your story. :)

One thing I found that helps is filling things out like the link. Like a very detailed role-play sheet. And yes, they have to have flaws, and yet, don't make them like I have before and make them too imperfect. In such fear of a Mary Sue I made them extremely unrealistically opposite. Don't do that either, sometimes you just need to have another person look it over and help.
It always helps to have a second opinion.

well that's a problem.
You could write like they behave or take up the same things differently. You can describe their hobbies at the beginning which at the between of the story, you can again relate those hobbies to them and also write that on a particular decision they both are not together, each one doing his part of pleasure. They can have different types of friends like for example: one can have a bad company and other one has a company which is mild and more like a bookworm, because friends only show one's real character.
You should get into people in your story and freely describe their hearty feelings, that develop during course of time (increase, decrease or change). This can be applicable to all kind of genre. Good luck!!!
