View Full Version : When I lack creativity....

I try to take two movies or books and combine them into one.
For instance, I dare you to write several pages combining Moby Dick with The GodFather. Or Star Wars and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
It is zany and goofy and helps me to get energized because it breaks all the rules of order and makes creativity fun again.
Take Twilight and cross it with Pirahna 3D. It makes writing fun again.

Hmmmm, I wouldn't say its the best method, I think most people would refrain from it because most people like using their own material.
If I'm bored I write the most insane OTT story line ever, and that usually gets me going for a few days.
I did try this once, and it just didn't work for me, because they are movies and have endings, if makes one not consider it, because if it doesn't end, as a writer absoloutly anything can happen, and most likely will.
I wouldn't really resort to this, in all honesty. But if it works for you, then sure, go ahead.
I usually just get my cock out.

XD Rage :P
If I crossed Pirahna 3D and Twilight every single vampire and werewolf and whoever else is anooying would all be eaten by the pirahnas. Now that would make Twilight good. Someone needs to send that to Stephenie Meyer. :)

When I'm out of ideas, I start a new story, then I run out of ideas for that one and return to the original. I usually have 3 or 4 stories on the go at one time.

That would make Twilight good! You should e-mail her that as the plotline for Book 5.

I risked my intelligence and logged onto Stephenie Meyer's webpage, but I didn't find any contact info. :(

XD Pirahnas and Twilight still should go hand in hand. :P
XD Pirahnas and Twilight still should go hand in hand. :P
Pirahnas don't have hands, silly. It'd be more like hand in mouth. And then there'd be no more hand. So it'd be just a stump and the mouth. And little by little, there'd be no more Twilight.
Oh wouldn't that be a day...
But truthfully, I like that Twilight exists. It just goes to show that you can get rich without actually making something good. And I think that's a pretty good motivator for us here :D
Anyway, back on topic: when I lack creativity, I'd just usually watch some TV shows or movies. Comedy. I've noticed that you can get a lot of good ideas from them, especially funny TV shows. They usually go for funny, but on occasion they'd put in some interesting (and sometimes quite serious) theme or a problem, and due to the comedic nature of the show, they often don't develop it that much. And with a few of those to start with, you can get a pretty decent story idea, once developed further.

Death to Twilight! It just goes to show, you know, most writers hate Twilight-the people who like it are the ones for whom the book blurb was the first thing they read- a.k.a People who have never even heard of "Great Expectations" or "The Raven." Honestly. I speak from pure experience.
Anyway, back on topic. ;) When I'm stuck, I write down random stuff. I just pick up a pencil and start writing. A bit of a favourite poem, a line from a movie, quotes, silly jokes, whatever. Then, when I read through them at the end, I usually end up with an idea. If that doesn't work... well, I read. And sometimes while I'm reading my imagination will kickstart. Reading helps, I suppose because it was reading that drove me to write. But I like some of these ideas, especially the Piranha+Twilight stuff.
