Well, next semester I'll be a senior in highschool. In fact, I just finished choosing my classes for next semester. I'll be taking Physics, English IV, Choir, Journalism, and Senoir Math(I could've chosen Calculas, but I won't need it in the future). As for electives, I have creative writing and film design, and Advanced Acting(They call me Denzel Washington). I'm thinking of replacing choir for art though, or maybe some else.

Also, next semester I'll be doing a program called Senior Option. This program will allow me to go to a college campus and take two classes after spending five periods in school. This way, when I do do to College, I'll be able to graduate early.

As of right now this year, ((2nd semester of sophmore year)) has been, and will continue to be a joke.

I'm taking

Regular Physics ((but I have a 99 and could easily be in honors if my damn biology grade wasn't so low last year))
Honors Algebra II
English 10 ((or II in some curiculums))
Honors Government ((just finished Honors Economics last semester))
Honors Spanish III ((lucky that this is my last year =]]]))
Golf/Bowling ((its a joke course where I can get a PE credit))
Advanced Drama ((its a fun course, but it takes up to much out of school time and I'll probably drop it next year for Drama Tech or Begining Guitar))

I just can't wait until senior year when I'm slated to take 6 APs... fun!

Wow, Alex, I didn't know you were interested in Acting too!

At our school we don't actually get to choose what classes we take. The just throw us into "electives" where ever our schedual fits. I pray NOT to get Tech Ed though. Shops scars me.

Alex

I like acting, but my views conflict with that of the teacher, but her husband on the other hand ((who is the band's composer/teacher and runs drama tech)) is really cool with me, and I was planning on either taking his beginning guitar class or the drama tech class next year.

Next year I can drive, and the commitment for tech won't be as difficult, and it really seems fun. That being said I still have a two months to decide on my schedule for next year.

I love to act and I love our teacher ((she knows what shes doing)), but she just doesn't agree to compromise with conflicting schedules and that irks me the wrong way. I dunno, its not like any of the major parts coming up for the next 2 years fit me and I'm ok with taking minor roles in 2 of the 4 big plays next year.

I didn't know you liked to act until you posted your classes here =] Its pretty cool am I right... am I right? ah, screw it! I know I am! ((I'm not boasting =]]]))

*Scratches head*

Yup! Acting is the best.^_^ I would like to be in the movies when I get older, then again, I have a lot of things I want to do when I'm older.

Well, I'm on a quarter system, so while you guys are taking semesters at college (for those that go to college), taking 3-4 classes, I'm taking the same number of classes in a shorter period of time...I get more classes out of the way that way.

So I'm taking:

Colonial American Literature
British Canon I (British Lit from pre-Norman invasion to Shakespeare and the like)
Science Fiction in Multicultural America (which isn't a literature course, but entertaining nonetheless)

I'm moving into my dorm Saturday. I'm really excited.

Art History from Prehistoric times until 1300
Introduction to Sociology
Medieval History
Introduction to Literature by Women
Grammar for Journalists (1-credit)
Study Skills and other random stuff involving the university (1-credit, required)

Shaun

Moving into a dorm? You're taking a huge load of classes! Where the heck are you going to school? (I know two are 1 credit...but still)

I'm still in grade 7 so yea...no choice in classes and such:rolleyes:

I know a few places that run on a quartley system. I don't enjoy it, not because of my laziness ((which does admittedly exist)) but because it doesn't give you time to grasp the information. I'm not saying I couldn't grasp the information, but any good teacher teaches you more than what can be found in the textbook, and having more time for that is what, in my mind, enriches ones experience.

I envy my drama teacher though, one of her old students is a director and he gave her a camero in The Waiters 2. That would be a fun movie to shoot, I must admit =]]]

I'm going to Maryland. I'm really excited. I've already begun to pack--it's madness. I'm thinking of majoring in journalism so my adviser said I really should take that 1-credit journalism class, and the other one all students are required to take in their first semester, but I only have each of those once a week so it shouldn't be too bad.

Alex

I bet you're excited. How is the campus up at Maryland, I've only visited the campuses down around here ((UCF by the by is amazing))

Crocolyle

The Campus is huge, but it's very beautiful. We have the longest mall in the country, six inches longer than UVA.

Alex

Now thats something to be proud of =]]] how many students?

Shaun

UC Santa Cruz is probably going to expanding, but it likely won't be as big as your school, at least for facilities. UC Santa Cruz is on a huge plot of redwood forest, though, and a significant chunk of field land where some cows are kept. It's kinda neat, because right below the school is the city of Santa Cruz, but the campus is so isolated from them it's like it's own little country.

Maryland has to be 25,000 students at least...

Redwood forest? You can't be serious! :D

That's like one of my dreams before I die. To see a redwood. PLEASE post a picture in the Pic Thread :D

And you got cows too? Unfair.

Byrne Creek seems so dull. (Well what to expect. It's a new school.)

You get to do Medieval History, Croc? *cries* I'm jealous. :D

Shaun, I had to take 6-7 modules plus practical sessions each semester. :p It was horrible ...

And if you guys get that excited by cows, you should just come live in the English countryside. We have cows. AND sheep!

Shaun
01-22-2008, 03:19 PM
Well, it's a requirement placed on the school to keep the cows. The man who gave the land to the state to build a school set some very strict rules, and one of them was that there had to always be cows on the land. So we have a small group of cows who just wander around and eat grass on the miles and miles of open land. We don't eat them or milk them. They just live here and the school takes care of them. It's kinda neat. The campus is really cool. There are a LOT of deer here (I mean A LOT...I've seen 10-15 deer in one place at one time and then 10 more not even a mile away) and they just wander around with all the college kids walking about. They're oblivious and it amazes me that the kids on campus haven't tried to fiddle with them. I think it's cause for expulsion if you do, but I just can't imagine that nobody has ever tried to screw with the deer.

Imelda, I have no idea what a module is. If I get straight As this quarter, though, I'm going to request to take more than 15 units (3 classes) next quarter and try to take 5 courses instead. I wish I had known I could do that this quarter because I would have taken two other courses related to SF, which I didn't know about because they're not lit courses...

You're moving to my school? Because if so, I guess that would be incredibly awesome. :approve: Graves also goes here. Remember him from 8th grade?

Crocolyle
01-22-2008, 09:17 PM
Graves is a crazy character. I didn't talk to him too much in high school though, like I don't think he was ever in any of my classes. Yeah, I'm looking forward to UMD. It should be awesome.

Rafael Domination

You're schools have cows, sheep and deer?

All we have is grass.

Sigh...

Anyhoo...I was going to go for Honors concerning my school subjects, but I decided to opt not because of all the horror stories I've been hearing. :D

Imelda
01-23-2008, 07:19 AM
You have deer?!

Grab on for me, and send me the meat. :p

Oh and it's cruel not to milk cows ... unless they're male cows, in which case it's not a problem. Or if there're calves drinking it, I suppose ...

Shaun
01-23-2008, 02:57 PM
They're not milking cows...they're just regular cows. I think technically they're meat cows, but this school has too many hippies so I doubt we'll ever eat one...

Imelda
01-23-2008, 04:30 PM
Female cows always need to be milked, Shaun. :p

Shaun
01-23-2008, 04:56 PM

Okay... I'm gonna rant now... But for the purpose of not like making everyone see it, it's gonna be spoilerised
Zomfrkgsh! I really hate my school. I freaking signed up for a freakinf Eytmology class, right? Well, even though it is an SAT prep class, the freaking description of the class said we'd be doing etymology. So, come to the class, guess what?! It's freaking everything to do with the freaking SAT! I don't give a crap about the math or the SAT (as I'm probably not even gonna take it), I only wanted to learn about the origin of freaking words! But no, my school doesn't understand that. A good thing: we have ten days to get out of a class without any... consequences. Today was day five. I turned in a form Fri requesting my class be changed. I did last semester too, in vain. So, I'm doubting I'll get it changed and I'll be stuck in this worthless class the rest of the year. It's bull crap.
Thank you for listening, that will be all:)

GeorgeMichael
01-29-2008, 02:40 AM
I know how you feel, there are two classes that I really want to change this semester but my school says that we cannot change Electives, what is that!!!??? Lazy.

But I want to do my best in that school so I'm gonna go to sleep earlier :) good night

Quietus...if you can't get out of the class throw a monster fit. Seriously. If the class is useless to you and you were misled they should move you, so don't take "no" for an answer. Throw a fit.

Last of the ten day period: I find out in second that my request has been denied for some time. So, what to do? Well, I go down to the counselors office to talk to Ms. Powers (senior counselor). I explain what happened, and like give her a "proposal"; to ed-practice with a teacher for second. So she tells me to turn in another form with comments from said teacher. Well, I do and turn it in before lunch. Like half-way through third, I get a notice that my request has been accepted and my class changed. So yeah, all is better now.

Shaun
