Sixteen years later...

"You asked that hack actor to BITE my head?"
"Yes, I did."
"What the fuck, mom?"
"Watch your mouth, John!"
"Watch my mouth? Watch my mouth? You wanted a stupid actor from a stupid movie sixteen years ago bite my head! Were you watching your mouth back then, mom?"
"Your grounded!"

Ahem....

^It's Nikki Reed holding the baby btw.

That isn't nearly as bad as him biting Tyra *shudders*. She was confusing the poor guy! Her own fault...

Some can be but I still love Robert Pattinson. Y'all don't get it, he looks okay but his personality makes him amazing.

That's what I was thinking too! I <3 the guy playing Eric.

And, believe me, Rob isn't a pretty boy. Sure, he plays those characters in TWO movies. In The Bad Mother's Handbook and Little Ashes he definitely isn't pretty boy. And in real life he isn't a pretty boy.

Blah, whatever. xP

I only have respect for certain actors and singers. Not a lot either.
-shrugs- They're people like everyone else. Seriously, I don't see why it'd be such a big deal to meet someone, though if it were one of the few that I really like it would be.
Still, they're human. Even Rob is. :P

Simmi
12-22-2008, 12:09 PM
I was reading an interview cause my friend and I were arguing that Rob is ugly. So I googled how he always got his hair sticking up and I found an interview where he answered that and he gets it like that by 'stressing out so I'm always pulling on my hair, I hate having hair in my face.' I found that creepy and funny. His poor not-so-great hair.

I just started reading this the other day. I'm about halfway through.

It's okay. I don't think it's a particularly good book, but it's kept my interest. Sometimes it feels a bit contrived Yeah, in a small town in the early evening there are gangs of rapists standing on street corners. It's just unbelievable and unrealistic. Stuff like that happens very rarely. Rape, to my knowledge, only rarely occurs like that. Then, Deus ex Machina, Edward saves her... it's just annoying... and the writing in some places feels a little childish--like too many sentences of similar length all beginning with the word "I" and uncharacteristically large words juxtaposed with colloquialisms and slang in the narration. Also Bella is a bit of a stuck-up bitch I think... Other than that, it's interesting.

Lizzie

Well, I enjoy the Twilight series. But the thing is, we all have different opinions and we are all different people. The reason her first book wasn't good is because she only wrote it to pay of her rent, when she relised it became a huge sucess, she wrote more, that got better and better. If any of you want to be horrible about this, then fine, it is your own opinion, but no one tell anyone that their opinion is wrong. Tsuki's is right, its her opinion, she doesn't like the book so what.

Ugh, I hate it when people say that. No, it doesn't work like that. What you're basically saying is we should ignore what we hate and just put attention on what we love instead? Humans aren't like that. Having hate in our minds is part of who we are, we can't just ignore it. Also, you're saying that we shouldn't do anything about what we hate. So, what you're saying there is that I should ignore British politics because I hate Gordon Brown and should just ignore him and let him go on with what he's doing and not vote when I can. That's just one example.

Eilidh
12-30-2008, 08:42 AM
Shadow i thought it was a review, and i would expect in a review that you post whether you read it and liked it, didnt like it or might read it, like once.
But it's in discussion so y'know, my bad.

jordanisonfire
12-30-2008, 10:26 AM
Well, yeah, it is a discussion now. All the other Twilight threads have been closed due to them being trivial matters such as the "Werewolf Dude or Vampiric Prettyboy" debate (as you can see, I've edited the names to what they are in my mind).

What, was she like Cullen's bitch and she was dreaming some weird vampire was banging her or something? Cos vampires are the undead, so that would count as necrophilia, in a twisted way, so she MUST have problems.

I think we didn't pay attention to Mechhead because we've all heard it before. When a new person comes on and talks about Twilight it is the same song and dance. Yeah, it's just a fad. We will forget her in a few years, unless she continually keeps spewing out these atrocities. Unlike Tolkien, who was big in his time, and still is today.

I also loved the film, and I can't find a fault in either apart from Kirsten Stewarts acting at one part when she goes

Reread it twice.
Bought New Moon.
Rinse and repeat.

Found out the books were popular.
Got hooked on Twilight fanfiction.
Wrote one or two stories.
Super obsessed now and making theories on Breaking Dawn.

I agree on the not making more books. Twilight was the best one of the four, while The Host is her best book.

:D

Breaking Dawn just plain sucked. As did the movie. :D

I just finished reading the Host, I thought it was great. I think I've said this before but I hope she doesn't make more! It'll turn into Twilight the second :P

Here's something on photobucket I found of the possible twilight manga

I had hopes of the book and the series, but then somewhere in the midst of the first book I just put it down and figured, "Eh, that's enough of that. Whatever."

Every time I see girls fawning over the Twilight section at the bookstore, a little faith in humanity dies inside me.

Vampires vs. werewolves is the most annoying cliche I've ever come across in my life. And adapting it to the teenage world is just stupid. It wasn't really a "breakthrough" in anything, unlike Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.

But I want to read "The Host." :D

Sometimes I think the Twilight series was just a cliche way to start off Meyer's acknowledgment, then the Host was the start of the real literature.

The things that made me drop twilight are as follows:

1. Everything goes RIGHT for Bella. Socially right. No matter how much she screws up, everyone loves her. She makes out with Jacob, Edward's like "Whatever makes you happy". The vampires love her and would do anything to protect her, as with the werewolves.
Where's the plot in that? Most stories have SOME point where the lead is disliked!

2. Edward's a creepy guy. Like, under his 'gorgeousness' (in the movie he looks sweaty), he's this obsessive, abusive, weird boyfriend. But Bella worships him, which is a bad message: He's beautiful, so he's good. Even though he's been stalking me at night.

3. The Cullen's wealth. She gets an amazing wedding, her own house for sex, beautiful clothes- where's the catch? She's just constantely showered with gifts. It makes. No sense.

4. There. Is. No. Plot.

But I guess the reason most girls love it is that they can pretend everything in their life is perfect LaDiDa. But why'd Stephanie Meyer have to make a vampire/werewolf/vamp mafia war that barely had any effect that she couldn't finish? Seriously, in the last book, there should have been an epic battle, but instead there's this mind-confrontation and then the Volturi leave. Makes no sense.

Although I respect everyone's tastes and opininons, I find Bella very flat and Edward creepy. Jacob was cool and believable. Billy Black reminds me of Geronimo.
Some people might say the books are terrible, and hate sites are sprouting EVERYWHERE. There are also lots of fangirls willing to spend big $ on the books, and that's fine. My friend was so utterly obsessed by the books that she spent almost all her free periods reading Breaking Dawn. If you're obsessed, that's good. I was prepared to start a new thread but I thought I'd cut the Twilight spam.
Seriously guys I know some of us dislike the book/series whatever... myself included.
But theres alot of people who like it and looking through posts, topics, even a group its getting pretty harsh.
I mean most of us got put off by the last one, two, three books... and from what I've seen the first one "Twilight" well people have had much of a problem with it other than its cliche. So saying "Twilight : Epic Fail" shouldn't it be maybe "New Moon: Epic Fail" if thats the one that put you off, with Eclipse etc etc aswell.
Because I'd be upset if people were saying my favourite book "epic failed" I'm not saying I liked the series, but if someone said my favourite book was basically, excuse my language, shit. Then I'd be hurt, wouldnt you? I think its acceptable to say if you like it or if you don't, and why you dont, but its getting blowed out of proportion in my eyes and its unfair on people who actually like the series/book.
I'm not saying you can't post your opinions, but don't really rip into it... consider other peoples feelings.

Yes, we should all be mindful of other people's opinions. However, people getting upset over it is their problem. It's good to get tough skin. If they don't know by now that not everyone is going to agree with them, then they better learn quick.

But again, I understand what you're saying. I got a little pissed the other night when SMeyer insulted Wuthering Heights, a classic by Emily Bronte. For the most part, I was irritated that she had such a bit ego, but that's just me, I suppose.

But yeah that might be a possiblity. She might've been reading Vampire Knight or something then dreamnt about it and said 'Oh I'm like so totally writing this down'. And yeah... well shit happens.

I think she read Blood and Chocolate and The Silver Kiss.
>.> There were so many similarities, and those above came out years ago.
Oh, and they were better, though Blood and Chocolate wasn't my favorite. The protagonist made me gag.

My teach wanted me to read B&C but I decided I had had enough of the vampireness. I might read it though...

Isn't Blood and Chocolate about werewolves?

Rouge

Yeah, it's about werewolves.

The Silver Kiss is about vampires, but it's different, it's good. Real good.
Better than Blood and Chocolate.

I watched the B&C movie and was so bored, I didn't even think about reading the book.
I probably won't read any modern vampire novels for a while though...considering most of them are like Twilight. =/

Meh then my teacher can't understand anything then. Cause she read the book and even watched the movie. She said it was about vampires -.-

There was no mention of vampires what-so-ever. o.O

The movie sucked. End of story.

It is only werewolves. She may have read The Silver Kiss, which is by the same author whose name escapes me at the moment, that has vamps in it.

Sorry if I'm "bumping" this topic, but I just read the other two books (New Moon, and Eclipse) so I thought I'd post my feelings on them ^^.
New Moon:
Personally this was a real disapointment. I sat absolutely bored through most of the book, the big twist in the book that Jacob's a werewolf didn't even surprise me or anything. It was just freaking boring. I thought that Bella's clumsines was pushed to the limit a bit, and that irritated me. The fact that Stephenie did the same to Alice's character annoyed me aswell... The book picked up a tiny bit when Alice came back but it was still boring, actually the first time I read it I skipped loads of bits. So yeah it wasn't a good sequel at all.

Eclipse:
This was alot better, I enjoyed it more than New Moon, alot more. I did still think that she over exagerated a few characters but it still was a good book, but Jacob really got on my nerves in this book. I was annoyed at Edward at being all okay about Jacob kissing Bella, then still being okay about Bella kissing Jacob. I still enjoyed it, but it dragged on sometimes.

It did, really. When she made out with Jacob in Eclipse I was like "WHAT THE HELL, YOU FRIGGIN' IDIOT" argh, I mean what a skank,

Okay, I know that alot of people on here aren't fans of the twilight series, but I must say, I love it - and everyone i've recommended it to has also loved it.

You can engage with the characters and that is something in a story that I love. Plus I really enjoy Stephenie Meyer's writing style - she is very to the point with her storytelling - but she can also create an atmosphere that makes you feel like you want to be/or are standing right there watching everything as it happens. (I'm not one for experiencing things through the characters eyes - I like to be on the outside looking in when i visualize a book). I can understand how some people who haven't been engaged by the book, can say that Bella is pretty bland - but that isn't actually the case. She is simply a very needy person - that is part of her character, she can be independent in herself (washing, doing schoolwork, taking care of her parents), but emotionally, she needs someone to rely on - this is where Edward comes in. Now I must say... The Cullens - I wish they were my family to be honest. I would really like to see much more of the The Cullens as a family rather than just Edward & Bella because I feel extremely engaged with each separate character of The Cullens much more than with Bella. The fact is, Bella as a character is SUPPOSED to be that way - it's what makes the story - she NEEDS Edward, not just for love, but for herself. She always thought she was plain and uninteresting - she has a low self-esteem and craves Edwards attention to make her feel better about herself. Some people can't engage with characters with personalities such as this, I however am different. I loved the twilight saga - I think its a fabulous series and I wish she would write more because I MISS MY CULLENS !

Each book is very moving and keeps you gripped from start to finish =]

Seriously? Twilight is a pathetic excuse for a book. Only my opinion.
1. Isn't there other words besides Godlike, dazzling, topaz, and icy. I mean the repetition was what really bothered me.
2. The whole book is totally cliche. For example: Best freind falls in love with best freind = overused.
3. Edward is always perfect and always a gentleman. Always. No on is perfect. Give him a flaw!
4. The ending is way too happy. I'm not saying she should kill off everyone, but c'mon. Everyone lives happily ever after? That's not how it works.
5. How can an undead creature get someone pregnant? It's impossible.
6. Sparkly vampires. Yes, that sounds like he's really dangerous.
7. I know werewolves and vampires are really cool, but have a little human interaction. Throughout the story Meyer makes it sound like Bella is so mature and so beyond all the other humans. No. I never saw that. Ever. At least put in some human interaction.

I think that's it for now. Those are really just my main points. Twilight really isn't that good a book. I know plenty of authors who deserve so much more publicity than Meyer. Most people only like it because of Edward. They go totally ga-ga over him. It's ridiculous and it dosen't make Twilight a good book.

Alright, so this is how I view Stephanie Meyer's literature.

I think that she is very talented when it comes to putting words together to form a [B]beautiful[B] sentence, but, the woman can't come up with a plot for her life. I think her works are rather...Lacking(to put it nicely) in that department and I have to say, the only reason I continued to read them was because of how talented the lady was at making a lovely sentence.

Her plots are dry, are remind me of a twelve year olds romance fantasies, just with prettier words.

Talented at composing prose; Unskilled at composing stories.

^^ Really? And to think I thought the Twifags would come beat me, rape me, and shoot me for telling the truth! Nice to know someone feels the same. (:

Also, James, how does Meyer make a 'beautiful' sentence? I thought the writing totally sucked. She repeated every other word and when I read it the sentences just fell flat. They were dull and they lacked the real luster a good sentence needs.

Fuck, the woman did what she needed to make money.
She captured an audience and spoon-fed them what they craved.
Is the book the best? No.
Is it even that god? No.
But, c'mon, let's be honest, half the people who criticize her write a helluva lot worse than she does.

Back when it first came out, I liked it, when I re-read it a year later, after reading decent literature, I realized how bland the plot and characters are. It's cliche and trite but it sold million's and the woman clearly did something right.

I honestly couldn't care either way. The woman wrote a series of very successful books, no they aren't good. If it were me, I would rather do something good and respectable and make nothing a tall, than write a series like Twilight and make money. But to be honest, I think people should just get over this whole argument.

I read the first three and about one-hundred pages into the fourth one before my complaining about it made my girlfriend give up her innane quest to get me to like the books.

Things about Twilight:
The writing is childish. I used to write like Meyer. When I was 13. And it looks like she abused the hell out of a thesaures.
I learned the definition of Mary Sue. The reason I think so many young girls like it is because they can basically project themselves onto the blank face that is Bella.
Meyer endorses abusive relationships, rascism and sexism.
Girls really like things that are cute.

So I was talking to Beth about Twilight. I said, Edward is abusive, scary. And if I were to do half the shit he does during the books, she would leave me, or at least hate me. I mean. If I threatened to kill myself if she left me, or watched her while she slept, or blackmailed her into marrying me. That shit is scary. She agrees. I ask her what she likes so much about it. She says "Its cute." I can't win.

And its kind of plagarized, if you've read the Vampire Diaries books.

Meh, I don't care enough to cry about "how much I hate Twilight." Got better things to do.

I 'va read and the four books and i really like them . They have something romantic and the stories are compelling even if the writing isn 't so good(i personally don't believe so). Certaintly they are not realistic and its a little annoying that everything goes so fine , but i like them because of that ( for their happy-endings) .
