Hello! I joined since I found this site simple, friendly, and of course, free. I hope you all don't mind I'm only 13, and I'll try not to kill people with horrible vocabulary, grammar, and spelling.
I hope to have a writing career in the near future! My faithful family and friends believe in me - excluding my envious older brother, of course. He would never admit to jealousy.
I can't say when I began writing - probably when I was about seven. When I was ten, I wrote a story about a monkey. I don't have much to boast about it, other than it being about 60 pages long of nonsense I made up along the way. I consider it an achievement, however, since it was the first story I wrote with a plot.
I am just beginning to write a story now, and I've been trying to stir up a unique plot for a while now. It is (going to be) about the daughter of an elfin king (I don't really like the word princess... makes me think spoiled brats chasing after Prince Charming) who finds that she has magical powerz!! I have a basic plot going on, but I don't want to post anything until I'm far enough along in my story to be sure.
I near strangled myself with fury and envy when Nancy Yi Fan published Swordbird. I borrowed the book from the library and stormed and ranted over it for about an hour about how I could write a much better story... but I guess many other young authors did that also.
I dream about being published, but I suppose that's not going to happen until I actually write a story!

You sound promising.

WELCOME! :D

And to be honest take what your family/friends say with a pinch of salt ... or maybe one of those blocks they give cows to lick. Nevermind, anyway, we'll make you a better writer (and conversely reader/critter). There will be pain. Possibly. Hopefully? Pain is gain ... and gain is rain? I dunno.

I'm guessing you write fantasy novel region. Your novel tagline isn't exactly the most unique sounding, but fantasy rarely is.

I SAID IT.

FANTASY IS UNORIGINAL. Boo yah.

Although nothing really is original, and I don't really care much to discuss the clichéd aspects of Shakespeare and the debate of whether SF is unique in terms of context, setting. Certainly not at this hour.

What do you like to read? Fantasy. Sigh. Anyyyyyway. Read the rules (hopefully you've already done that), and the critique guidelines cause you need to review each other's work as well as post your own (but since you talked about ripping Swordbird to shreds, that doesn't sound much like a problem) ... otherwise you'll have to deal with the YWO hierarchy.

At the tip of which are the RED PEOPLE. Their usernames stained with the virtual blood of all those trolls/dragon members.

I digress.

Welcome, Shar! I'm Iri. 'Tis a pleasure to meet ya (It's been so long since I've welcomed a newb...how terrible. >.<). As Spacepirate said, you certainly sound promising. Ah? Fantasy, you say? Excellent! I'm intrigued to see how your story deviates from the typical elf lore, so please drop me a line if you need a crit.

Ah! You, too? I bought both Swordbird and SwordQuest (that is the title of the prequel, right?) a few years ago, and it filled me with an immense (and false) sense of relief. "Well, damn. If this can be published without being destroyed by the general public, I've got it made." I was a disillusioned squirt then. Still am. *sighs*

Anywhoo, welcome once again to YWO. :)

Hello Shar, welcome to YWO, I like your spirit, that's good. And what's also good, is that you are going to pay attention to the spelling, grammar, and all that jazz...
Anyway, make sure that you check out the Critique Guidelines (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/critiques.php) and the FAQ & Rules (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/rules.php). :)
Other than that, you are ready to go, if you need anything, you can always refer to the members like me and others of course, moderators (members with green names), administors (members with red names), or the crit sheriffs (Spacepirate/Tsuki...)
Welcome again. ^^

What about purple? :P

Anyway, welcome to the site. I write fantasy, too, sometimes, and I've read quite a few (what I think) are very creative fantasy books. But having said that, no genre is entirely original as there are only seven plots . . .

I heard of the Swordbird book when it came out; some kid was ranting about how great is was in assembly or something . . . anyway, read the blurb in a bookshop at Stanstead Airport (the only place other than that assmbly where I've seen it) and thought it sounded terrible, and put it back.
