Do you intend to pursue writing as a career? :smart:

Yar. :D

I'm not exactly the most dedicated person on this board, so I foresee myself writing the occasional story for possible publication/fun. That's about it.

Andy

I'm going to have it as a secondary job, since you never know how a book will do until it's published. If Rowling status is achieved, though, I'll probably go and drop my regular job. :)

Nyx
01-04-2008, 06:43 PM
Ehehe, I was basically going to say the same thing as Andy.

I want writing to be my secondary job just incase I don't make as much money as Rowling with writing:P

Andy
01-04-2008, 07:03 PM
What would your primary job be? Mine would probably be computer programming. 95% sure.

Nyx
01-04-2008, 07:05 PM
If all goes as planned, and my interests don't take a sudden swerve in the next coupl o' years, (although they probably will), then I want to be a laywer as my primary job.

Alex
01-04-2008, 07:34 PM
oh God good luck with that Nyx. Well I am almost sure I know what my secondary job is going to be and thats writing in the sports collumn for the local newspaper. Not sure if that really goes under writing, but if it doesn't I don't think I'd be able to keep up with three "jobs" so I'd probably just write sporadically and more for fun than money.

I will try to make some money off my writing, but to support myself I'll most likely go into nursing.

I'd love to write for a living. I can't imagine doing anything else.

Realistically, I probably would need to get a second job, but meh. I am young. I can afford to be unrealistic until fifty or something.

Andy
01-05-2008, 12:44 AM
but meh. I am young.

Even with a mere 4-years difference, I envy you greatly. I could have been done with my books by now. :P

Well, seeing as I'd do writing as a secondary job, and I want to be an activist, then you could defend me in court, Nyx. :P

Zaphkiel
01-05-2008, 03:05 PM
I would take writing as my main job, but I'm interested in medicine and acting as well, so writing my be a good secondary job while I rake in the money with either medical or acting skill.

Madmike

I want to write a book, but I really want to be a lawyer, so like many other people apperently, I would take writing as a second job, not a first.

I should print that out and post it on the wall above my desk. What a reminder.

What a reminder.

You want to be a lawyer too? Cool. What kind of law are you interested in?

Well, seeing as I'd do writing as a secondary job, and I want to be an activist, then you could defend me in court, Nyx. :P

Sure..I'm behind you all the way:P

jordanisonfire
01-05-2008, 07:23 PM
So, if I assassinated the president and you knew I'd done it, you'd back me up? :P

I wouldn't...I'd snitch on your ass and have you sent straight to the electric chair!:D

*Joking*

How nice, Zaph. :P

Nyx

So, if I assassinated the president and you knew I'd done it, you'd back me up? :P

Well depends, if I'm a good lawyer and I didn't like the president then yes I'd be behind you:P
If I'm a crappy lawyer...well I don't think you'd even want me to back you up in that situation:rolleyes:

jordanisonfire
01-06-2008, 11:14 AM
I'd have a team of lawyers. :D

Alex
01-06-2008, 01:02 PM
and you still wouldn't win Shadow, I hope you take solace in that =]

jordanisonfire
01-06-2008, 01:06 PM
I know that. :D But who wouldn't want to kill Bush? You know, just by saying that, I could get jailed, couldn't I?

Alex
01-06-2008, 01:09 PM
Well I'm not sure I'd kill him, but this isn't the right post for a political debate =]

jordanisonfire
01-06-2008, 01:10 PM
Well, look at the Republican Party's policies/beliefs on Wikipedia and you'll see why Bush is an idiot.

FUCK BUSH! :D

Alex
01-06-2008, 01:17 PM
Bush is a horrible political leader, its just the way it is and it takes an idiot not to know that, but he did do some things economically at the start of his first term ((first 2 years or so)) that proves to me that he has something in that hick brain of his. I think he could've made it as a successful economic advisor or maybe even a secretary of the treasury, but hes so bad with political decisions its a joke, and I know it is =]

I want to be a writer and only a writer at some point. So if I can make a living writing I will. It's the best job in the world in my opinion.

Nyx
01-06-2008, 06:25 PM
If I thought I could make enough money to survive being only a writer, then I'd be only a writer but I don't think I could so :P

Shaun
01-06-2008, 06:49 PM
Me too, Nyx :P. I'd love to be a writer for a living, but I could live with just writing as a second job.

jordanisonfire
01-06-2008, 08:25 PM
I thought you wanted to be a teacher, Shaun. I'd be a teacher, too, if I get good enough grades. It'd be quite a cool job. :)

Shaun
01-06-2008, 08:46 PM
Well, I want to be a teacher because I know it's a job that will pay from the start and a job I'd enjoy. But I want to be a writer more than anything, one who writes for a living I mean. I just realize that training myself to be one with a college degree is stupid.

Nyx
01-07-2008, 12:42 AM
I'd never be patient enough to be a teacher, if a kid starts being annoying I'd probably slip and tell her to eff off.:P

Shaun
01-07-2008, 02:51 AM
I'm going to be teaching college level, Nyx. Not such a big problem :P.

Nyx
01-07-2008, 02:53 AM
Oh, good. I still wouldn't be patient enough for that either though...

jordanisonfire
01-07-2008, 09:50 AM
I'd rather teach at high school level. :D

Carraka
01-07-2008, 10:47 AM
I couldn't teach either. I would have trouble grading stuff. Giving anyone less than a perfect would hurt so much. Plus, I'm rebelling against the system (in my mind), so I don't want to be spending more time in school than I need to. And if I get a stable job, I might just stay there for the rest of my life.

Sooo ... maybe I need to go to college first to make an informed decision. xD

01-10-2008, 02:06 AM
Yup. If need be, waiting tables is fine with me to make money.

Shaun

Waiting tables, eh? Well that sounds...not so fun :P. Be a writer instead :D.

And i'm gonna work as a game designer at Square Enix AT ALL COSTS!!!

You too?

My animation part might actually spill out into character design for the next final fantasy games! :P

But yeah, Author and Animator...those two are a nice combo...^^

I have always wanted to do something as a career that encluded writing and children. I like the idea of writing for childrens television, like drams and series and stuff because that could be fun, but it's really hard to break into . . .

My other idea was a teacher because I like kids and I'd teach English. However, I too am a rebel of the system and would hate to force children to learn something they hate. So if I were to go into teaching I'd like to work at a free-democratic school like Summerhill where the kids choose what they want to learn because they want to and those schoold have great phylosophies on childhood etc. The only problem with that is there are about five in the whole of Britain . . .

So, I'm not really sure what I want to be and until I decide, I will write. :)

Personally, I would love to write as a career...There's only the simple matter of somehow making enough money to live by. So, in reality, I'll probably go into Communications, or something similar. Something that I will use writing in, that also includes other things.

I'd do it as a secondary job...cuz I love writing and I do plan to publish my story someday.....but my ultimate dream job is still to be a veteranarian....no matter how many years of college I have to go through...I love animals too much not to go through it all.

I would like to make a living off it... but now when I think about it it'd be better as a secondary job... *shrugs* well I'm young I have my whole life ahead of me :D

For me, either as a secondary job, or for some for money, but not enough to be considered a career, if i really enjoyed the job I was in. What if you took writing as your main career, and tried to make a living out of it, and your first book failed? I'm not saying it will happen, it's just a "what if?".

I would love to write for my living... not for the money.. but to be recognised, for someone to love and see and appreciate what i have written.. but being realistic... i would need to have a job to make a living whilst im trying to break through, and to fall back on if i don't. This is why i am thinking of teaching creative writing in further education, that way i can work with people who WANT to learn and have a love for writing as i do. This is why i would like to study creative writing in university.

I want to be a doctor, ER specialist. Writing will be secondary, if only because it is something I do more for enjoyment than for money or recognition. Nothing would deter me from trying to publish some of my stuff though.

I'm not that much of a writer, but I want to be a journalist and writing is a big part of it, though I wouldn't make it a career unless I feel I have a good chance of succeeding.
So yeah, as a secondary job. :)

Chances are it will be a hobby. I am planning on majoring in astronamy or physics.

Yup yup. The plan is to go to college, study creative writing with English and French, get a job as a journalist or something and write on the side until sometime, hopefully, I'll write a successful book :)

No, I really want to be a kindergarten or jr. primary teacher. I may be a free-lance writer on the side, though.

I plan for the opposite of Andy. I'm going to have a secondary job until one of my twenty or so books hits big or the combind ernings can support me. Yes, I'm a dreamer.

I dream of a career in writing, but I guess it's pretty unrealistic.

I love writing, so it would be amazing to have it as a career, but I'm not sure how much money I would bring in, so I would probably get another job too.
