Bane of the Fire City
Stone of Vengeance
Sun of Darkness

These are some titles I'd like to be turned into novels of mine. The problem is, I can't think of a plot. No I'm not actually using the ideas you give so.. :) Just for inspiration and they help alot. Please no stealing these titles!

Thanks,
Em

Well, I'll try to help you but I really disagree with this method. I think you should have a plot and then pick your title. But, I guess I'll try. I'm not going to try to get a plot for all of these, but I'll let you know about the ones I'm trying to get. And don't worry, I won't steal any of these. I'm not that kind of person. But if you want some variated plots, don't you think you should have some more diverse titles? But really consider this method because in my opinion, this is certainly not a good one. And asking other people to come up with plots for you, well, that's not your own original work, you know? But I'll brainstorm and then post some stuff later.

Alright. I just wanted to try a different method and see which I like better. Thank you.

What Toast said. I've tried doing it that way and it rarely ever works. Think of a plot then a title.

Also what Toast said: if we think of a plot for you, it's not really your story.

Look at me, repeating everything that has been said.

Why not just come up with a tentative title to get you going, write the thing, and then change the title if it's appropriate. Don't write a story to the title. Write a story and make a title that fits.

No offense, but I feel that you're not seeing how you're damaging the writing you're doing. You can write a title that is worth platinum, but it doesn't mean a thing unless you have the storyline that backs it up. If the title sounds cool, but is simply a thousand pages of bland work, the book has no status. There is no heart to the writing. My advice is to completely forget about the title. Write the idea, and never build an idea off of a title. Once the work is finished and you know exactly what it means and what it says. Let the work speak for itself. Then, decide the title. NEVER settle for basing a plot off of a title. Never...

I write the story, and halfway through, I come up with a title, usually when I have writers block.
Like this Title: Death Has A Job To Do, So Let Him Do It.

Yeah, Em. Coming up with the title first makes you force yourself throught with that and it's not good to do. Like maybe think of the plot first, right a chapter or so, then make a title. Not only do you know what you want, but your not forcing everything evolving your title. I hope that made sense.

A lot of my stories came about because of titles.

The Goddess of Discord Lives on Mulberry Street (published in Flurb 9)
The Good Executioner
Francis the Mute (A The Mars Volta album title I reused for a story)
Manuel of a White and Gloomy Planet (taken from an 19th century male chauvanistic manuscript)

I could go on and on. Often I start with an image in my head that evokes a line and that line becomes the title and that image the opening scene. Sometimes it seems like my head is a boggle dome and random phrases mold together to make titles, but my main inspiration comes from cool titles.

That's a bit of hard work, I daresay. I mean, choosing the title first.

A title I'd like to see become a book would have to be, "Mutant monkey assassins, and the magic banana".

i think you should choose the plot first and then the titles
or if you have something in your mind like any topic or something you should write on it first and then you should give the title.......and i like your titles.
