YWO Awards!

I think YWO should have nominations and awards for all the great works on the site for the New Years. GeorgeMicheal tried something like it, but it didn't get very far. But I think if everyone on YWO know's about it, then it could be successful!:D

Exactly! At least someone knows what I'm talking about.^_^ We could also have things like, The best protaganist, the best antaganist, the most thought out plot, and the most favorable character. I think these awards will make YWO more interesting. Things like, The best Critiquer or the Most appreciated YWO member. There are many more I can think of that deal with art and poetry, too.

Anyhoo, having run three of these over the last year, I can say that there aren't nearly enough people on YWO yet. It'd be dead boring, with no surprises. :p

I don't think we should go for "the most appreciated", 'cos all of these categories should make the winners feel appreciated and if they lose the category for most appreciated, they'll feel like they aren't.

If we do this guys, we should start with only a few categories that are very very simple. Like Imelda said, YWO isn't very big yet. So we should try to just pick very basic categories.

Yeah, I guess we should start small. God knows when we'll have a lot of members. I also think it's a good idea for either Shaun, Andy, or Imelda to host it, or all three could. Imelda obviously has experience with this, not to mention she's a mod on TW, and Shaun and Andy own the site.

Andrew and Shaun will probably do the old thing and say: "we don't wanna be a part of this". But, I don't think we need a host. We'll just send in our votes for each category to Andrew or Shaun, if they do indeed say that they don't want to be a part of it, and they can tell us the winners.

Okay, so this is what we're going to do:
You guys pick 5 categories that you want to eventually vote on. These should be basic categories, not very specific ones. Think basic and simple.
Once you all, meaning the members, decide on 5 cats, I'll put up 5 threads for nominations, and once we get to a certain day for nominations, we'll have five threads for voting. And then we'll have our winners. We'll shoot to have this all done by the end of January.

So figure out your cats...

No one starts off as the perfect writer, Shadow. I studied hard about all the key elements of novel writing. I've read exactly 16 books on characterization, imagery, Dialogue, and Literary terms of the novel. I've even studied things like foreshadowing, premises, flashbacks, dreams, Point of view-just so I could apply them to writing. I've done all this and I still have so much to study and learn. People say that I'm so good, or that I don't need to study, but their wrong. Everything involves some sort of study. Once you study more on these aspects, I guarentee your skill level will reach new heights, take it from me.^_^

I think I can clearly say that Zaph is also a talented writer. Very patient too. I need to work on that concerning my novels: hunker down, describe things more often, slow the pace down...I'm just so used to writing action :D

We can't really do anything that says "most popular" unless you want nobody to vote on that. Most popular implies that nobody really votes, we just look at whatever we're judging.
We need basic, simplistic categories. No categories for novels either. I think that would be unfair, unless it is for a novel chunk. Nobody really has finished any novels here on the site and we can't really have a fair vote even if there were full novels here simply because...well...how many of us would have read it all the way through?

In any case, we need cats that can be voted on by members.

Generally I hate teens. No offense to anyone here, but I think the vast majority of them need to be smacked a few times until they realize that "no, showing your boxers is not cool" or "no, getting pregnant or not using a condom doesn't make you better than anyone else"...the list could go on.
However, I find that teens who have a mind aimed towards the artistic tend to be much more interesting and far more valuable than other teens. I get along with them, they rarely annoy me, and generally they are intelligent. So, it's all good news for you Shadow :P.

One section of awards for writing and one section of awards would be a personality contest ((most popular, most helpful, cutest couple, etc. etc.)) and the first section would have ((most unique writer, best rper, best story of the month, etc. etc.)) I know thats how we did this on other sites I've been on.

I like the way this guy thinks, guys. I wouldn't mind doing things like the cutest couple, most unique writer, most helpful, or things like that. So lets use some of these with the Ideas we made. As for voting, I'm sick of waiting around for some one to start this thing up, so I'm going to start it...I did make this thread after all. Then I'll let Shaun or Andy take over.

We will first start with nominations, and I will keep an organized list of the nominees. Nominations will end on January 15, 2008. I'll post a thread in the Common Room where you can make your nominations. Now, you can either post your nominees on the thread or you can PM me the nominees you have chosen in case you want your vote to be secret. I'll start the thread now. It will be called the National YWO Awards!
