View Full Version : Poll #11: Writing Partners
Poll idea by Zaphkiel (sort of)!
This doesn't include RPGs and stories where anyone can post the next part. I mean stuff where you actually work together and think of what direction you want to take the piece. Thoughtful cooperative writing. ;)

I sometimes do this, not usually for short stories, though. I've co-written several plays and skits with a couple of my friends.

I do scripts with friends for Drama and maybe a Short Story for English Lit.
I usually write a book with my friend. We do alternate chapters.

Zaph and I are working on something...but I've managed to screw up production (I'm sorry Zaph...it's my computer, really :( )

Don't worry Raff. I've been too busy to notice anyway.^_^ Rafael happens to be my first partner. I've also done short stories with my cousins.
I have done a few, but not many. I'd love to do it again, it was really fun writing with my friend. So if anyone here would like to write with me *hint hint* :P

I've done it with my friends, but it turns out poorly. We either start arguing over whether candlelight can cascade, or I give in and the plot becomes two-dimensional.

I'm working on an urban fantasy/modern myth type story with Imelda actually. We're doing a lot of thinking and worldbuilding right now because we decided to invent our own modern urban sprawl (sort of like NYC) just so we can actually do the things we want with the city. Some of the things we want to do can't be done with real cities...

That sounds really cool, Shaun.

We think so too :D...it was a pain in the butt to come up with a cool name for the city though...she hated all my ideas...and then gave me hardly any to look at...so I was just throwing them out of my magic brain or out of generators and missing every time...

Have you guys came up with one yet?

Right now it's Wellmere. I really liked New Timberfax, cause it sounded sort of American (which is what we wanted) and strong and city-like. But she hates that name, so we ended up with Wellmere for the time being. Maybe it will change, but I doubt it.

Wellmere? How do you pronounce that?
Shaun

I pronounced it "Well-meer", but perhaps we'll have another pronunciation for it. I don't think we're going to stray too far from an American style city though. She makes fun of me for saying 'shire' as 'shy-er' rather than as 'sher'...oh and I apparently say Gloucestershire wrong too...

xDD
Well, I say "shy-er" too. And tell her I side with New Timberfax. Really.
Gah! You guys make me want to write a book with someone now. I'm going to abandon my carnivorous horses and -- and.

I really like New Timberfax too...but she thought it sucked...

It does suck, it's all harsh and American and horrible. :( And it's our book, so we have to agree. :(
I can't see how else 'Wellmere' can be pronounced.
And you guys should hear how he pronounces Gloucestershire. :p It's hilarious, and strangely painful to the ears.
You 'shy-er' people are ALL wrong! Ask Shadow, he'll back me up.
I also did that Tipsy Whale thing with Lexie which was so much fun. :pirate:
Soooo, all the people who have written something with someone else, do you do two POVs (or more) and take one each, or do you do something else?
Carraka

We 'shy-er' people are right in the United States, but as soon as we step out of the country, we're wrong.
So I'm going to stay here. And you stay wherever you are. Then we can both be right and wrong and etc. Or we could argue. Since the pronunciation of the word "shire" isn't fundamentally important to the meaning of Life, the status quo would also be acceptable.
...
Right. That wasn't me. Anyway, I've done two POVs (taking one each) and just single POV. It doesn't work either way. I think the problem is that I don't really take this writing projects seriously. Yeah, I guess you could write them for fun, but I also like to write stuff that I can eventually show to someone else. I'm not making sense, so I'll just post this quick reply now.

You know, Gloucestershire wouldn't be such a difficult word if you guys had just won the Battle of Hastings and pushed out the Normans...then at least words like that wouldn't exist and the French would be oppressed as they rightfully should be :glare:

I showed you the British form of Gloucestershire and it was MUCH worse! Even I can't say it ...

I'm not sure if getting feed back from every paragraph you write is considered partnering....but both me and Simmi comment and change eachothers minds when were writing cuz we get so much feedback from eachother

Good topic, you-know-who. What can I call you on YWO?
Anyway, you-know-who, we've worked together for the Musings, but I mostly write solo.

I like to keep my work more private, because I'm still self concious about whether or not they're good. Not even my parents have read a single word of any of my books or stories.
