I'm a newbie:blush:
I love writing, I joined today and posted the first paragraph of one of my pre-written stories 'Flowers Do Wilt'
Did I take the word 'Young' in Young Writers Online too seriously? I feel younger than everyone here? How old are you guys? Then again, I might just feel young because I'm new. :P
I have a few questions for you to answer;
-Does anyone use the Chatroom? When I enter it, it's as though I'm the only one speaking?
-Is everyone here really critical? Will they kill me if I mistype?
-How young do they mean in the title "Young Writers Online"
-What really annoys you in a piece of writing?
Thankyou
Millie
Hi Millie.
Welcome to YWO.
I'll answer your questions: Young Writers Online is aimed at writers around 13 or 14 to 25 I think. Most of the members here are within the 14-19 range. People do use the chatroom but it isn't used as much as it used to be. The people here are not overly critical in the sense of bashing everything you say, but we are here to help each other improve as writers, so their will be corrections. Just be sure yo use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling and read the rules (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/rules.php) and critique guidelines (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/critiques.php) and you should be okay.
As for what annoys me in a piece of writing, there are far too many things to list in a welcome thread :P

I haven't used the chatroom since September, maybe, but at times there are seven or so people using it.
-Is everyone here really critical? Will they kill me if I mistype?
Typos are fine, just so long as you don't use chatspeak.
-What really annoys you in a piece of writing?
Ah, well. I could start listing things, but I think I'd find too many once I got started.
So, as Drax said, read the rules and critique guidelines, and welcome to YWO!

Hello! I don't use the Chat much, but there are people who are in it alot. I am thirteen, so I feel pretty young, too... O.O
What genres are you interested in reading?
And how old are you? I don't mean to sound like a stalker or something. Just to clear that up. :P

I'm 12, 13 in July (: And any genre really, at the moment I've nearly finished Inkheart. I saw the film and loved it, so I bought Inkheart and Inkdeath in the sales a few days back. Its a good read.

Ah no don't worry about being young, I'm only 14 and since I'm pretty new as well I feel a lot younger than everyone else out there...
I read Inkheart recently too, even though it's apparantly 'for younger readers' (not helping the whole age thing, I know :) )
Annoying things in a piece of writing.... If I had to pick one, I'd probably say too many cliches (can't do the accent on that, sorry), but there are many more :)
I'd be happy to read all your writing and give it an honest answer, but I can be too nice and too enthusiastic sometimes ;)

Hi Millie,
1-Yes,we do use the chatroom, but there's a weird thing that keeps happening every once and a while,it's just that members apply the rule of "all or none!"(It's in biology, nerve fibers either receive the message completely or don't at all)What I mean is that sometimes either they all of them decide not to enter the chatroom or they enter, all at once,it would be a mess believe me!And funny at the same time :)
2-As for me, I'm not that critical,I'm not that harsh,I can't fry a post,I keep it uncooked most of the times,I'm pretty sure there are other members like me and there are some others who are critical, but I believe it's for the sake of improving our writings.
3-By the word young they mean 13 and above but it's okay if you're turning 13 this July,I'm turning 15 next month(don't forget the present :P)
4-What annoys me are the punctuation and grammatical mistakes or sentence wording mostly, because it makes it hard for the reader to focus on the content of the writing.
Again,as Drax mentioned, critique guidelines and rules can really be benificial for you as a newbie.
Welcome to YWO. :)

Oh, then you aren't much younger than me (And Fiction, whom you may see lurking about at some point...)!
