The following thread will probably consist of me moping to myself, since I don't think anyone here is a Discworld fan.
But Terry Pratchett, author of the 36-book series, was recently diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimers (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7141458.stm). This means the series will eventually come to an end: a practically inconcievable thought.
I'll just have to treasure my hardcover "Making Money" and the blotchy photo of his silhouette on my old cell-phone, which... come to think of it... is broken. So I have pretty much nothing. :(

Sounds terrible...this is one of the news types where I have no idea what is going on, but now I'm tempted to find out just so I can mourn with you...

This was in the news a few days ago. But don't worry, Guessed. It's sad, yes, but he's got plenty of time to churn out another few books (maybe wrap up the series?). And he will leave an amazing legacy. :)

Wow, that's so sad. I'd hate to die and leave one of my series unfinished, but, of course, Pratchett has enough time to complete his. Really makes you think...
So sad...I guess it's like a wakeup to all the writers who are taking their time for granted....:(

Complete Discworld? That's a bit impossible, he'd have so many holes to fill up.....long live the city of Ankah-morph....[major sp]

They. All. Keep. Dying.
AAAH!!! Something is wrong with this year! I'm glad it's ending soon. Then we can start a new year, when no authors will die, and um ... we'll elect a new president ... and um, well, I'll be in 10th grade. Yeah. I'll have finished EC by then. Yup.
Ahahahahahahahahahahaaa!!!!!
(That's five exclamation marks, mind you.)

I just died too! In SBS, I mean. By the way, Ed, are writers really be wiped out by some kind of mysterious plague or are you just exaggerating? I haven't heard of any other instances.
..What am I saying? Terry isn't dead. He's just mostly dead. Yay Princess Bride. Except that phrase actually sounds worse, if it's possible.
Steak-Ums, it's Ankh Morpork. And I'm nitpicky. :D

To be honest, this is sad, but at the same time...there's a chance they might have a breakthrough in Alzheimer's soon. There are a dozen or so promising research projects right now and a few believe they are on the verge to at least come up with a way to combat the memory loss, and others think they might cure it in the next few years. He'll have plenty of time to finish out the series and possibly have a cure before he goes completely.
AWHHHHH NOOOOO :(
This is the first I've heard of this (must stop living under this rock)
I finished "Thud!" and while ago, and have read probably all of the others (apart from the "Good Omens Bad Omens" or whatever it was called. And i dont think I finished "Mort" because i spilled water all over it and the pages fell out :glare:)
This is sad news indeed. And I also doubt he will be able to finish everything off before he is unable to write anymore. There is just so much. Unless the giant turtle and all the elephants die :D

Well, I haven't read any of Pratchett's books, but I've seen part of the Hogfather as a movie, and it was pretty good.

I was pretty depressed when I found out. But look on the brightside, he's said he's gonna write more books. It could be a long time before it begins to really affect him. Hope is not lost.
