View Full Version : The Situation At Home

I was going to put this in site news, but I figure it's not really appropriate there.

As an admin here, and part owner of YWO, I thought it would probably be a good idea to let everyone know what has been going on with me in my personal life, just so you all don't freak out if something happens where I'm unable to be a part of this community for a short while (until I can fix things at least, and I'm doing my best to avoid that result).

I moved to Santa Cruz in September under the impression that my mother's place would be a good way to not only save on rent (I pay rent, it's just a little cheaper than most places), and a way to allow me to focus on my studies. My intention with University level work is to take only course I need and get my BA done as fast as possible. This means going against the grain and taking a lot of upper division courses. I don't know if Andy has taken upper division courses yet, but if he has he'll understand how much work one can be--now imagine three. I basically want to get my BA done and go to graduate school to get my MA and pursue teaching and writing as careers. Go English teachers. As a result of this line of thinking I will be able to graduate next fall, which is somewhat crazy when I should be at UCSC for two years at a minimum.

Well, my living situation has grown a little...well, tense. My mother's partner has miraculously been put in a position where she is resigning from her job--for reasons beyond her control--and now they (my mother, her partner, and my brother) are moving to Eugene, Oregon. This means that now I have to find a place to live after the school year has already started. I don't know if any of you have had to look for off-campus housing before, but usually all the best options are available the months prior to the beginning of the school year, and after that it is slim pickings. Well, I have to move. I don't have a choice now. They are leaving, and I have no place to go. I can't afford most anything that is available now and my car has decided to break on me, putting me in a very bad position: I may be homeless. If I drop out of Uni, all my student loans turn on and I have to start paying them within six months. Well, that's not going to happen because I won't have an education and trying to live in the bay area without a degree is nearly impossible unless you work four jobs and eat noodles.

I am doing what I can to make sure this situation gets better. It's not easy, and it's driving me crazy because all this has happened in the last couple weeks of my quarter--i.e. finals week.

In any case, I wanted everyone to know what is going on. I'm hoping things will turn out okay. I've been put in a really bad spot and there are very few options at this time of the year. Four months ago, no problem, but not now.

Anywho all. I'll live :P. But if I disappear for a couple days it's because I'm moving or something. Or I've been kidnapped by evil elephants and subjected to government torture by the President...

I hope you work things out Shaun:)

And if evil elephants try to kidnap you, then I will send :llama: with super powers to get rid of them:P

Good luck with everything you're dealing with.

Man, that sucks. That'll probably happen to me, but that'll be because I procrastinated getting a place. Hope you get through your troubles, Shaun. Remember, there's always going into the forest and living as we used to, with nature. But, seriously, don't do that, because you wouldn't come back on again. :(

I can't really do that Shadow :P.

Thanks for the support though :)

You could live in the trees at the bottom of my garden ... I'd even set up wireless for you and leave it unsecured. :D

You figure out a way to make it so I can go to Uni in England and can live in England, then we have a deal.

I know you're joking, but that might not go down well with the neighbours. :D

My neighbours are an 80-something year old woman who can't see too far, and a couple who hide behind a really high hedge. :p
