Alright, who out there is a fan of Joss Whedon's Firefly series? That includes the movie Serenity.
So, come on out and profess your love for the show!

I've watched the series from time to time on channel 45 (Space...in Canada)...I admit, its a rather unique view on sci-fi...
They said the movie sucked though...I've never watched it, but, is it true?
never heard of it...what is it about?

The movie was freaking awesome. Who said the movie sucked? I'll kill them...they're idiots :P.
Nyx, Firefly is a science fiction space opera/old west style show set in another solar system because "Earth that was" is dead. It's about this crew of a ship called Serenity who do odd jobs, legal and illegal, just to get by, but are suddenly thrown into the political web of the Alliance--basically the evil government that meddles in the affairs of others--when they take on a passenger who has rescued his sister from a government lab. They're basically trying to survive and keep one step ahead of the Alliance.
The characters are all really interesting too and you learn a little about them all as the story progresses. Some of the characters are war heroes from when the Alliance fought the Independents for control of the outer planets (they lost obviously), and then there is a preacher, a registered companion (someone who works for a guild and basically has sex for a living...only a little more flashy than what we would call a 'whore', since they choose their clients and get paid a lot and are healthy and don't look like crap), a witty pilot, a genius down-to-earth mechanic, an idiot manner-less gunhand, etc. It's really one of the greatest shows to ever grace TV.
It was canceled, unfortunately, in its first and only season, but all of it was filmed. The funny thing is that FOX, the same people that canceled Family Guy and got reamed for it, released the first season on DVD and it sold so well that Joss Whedon was able to make the movie Serenity, which also did very well. I blame its failure on TV to the fact that they gave it a crappy time slot.
Fox cancelled Futurama also - quite an uproar that caused, since they're thinking of putting it back on.

Joss Wheadon is a god. I need to see that show. Unfortunately it never aired in the UK. :(
Shaun, bring your DVD player and DVDs when you come visit me. :p

Or alternatively, ignore me completely. :groovy:
Anyway, I *cough* watched (legally of course) the first episode today and it looks pretty good! I'd rather watch it without Spanish subtitles, though ...
