I guess the thread title speaks for itself. I'm sure we've all listened to songs with lyrics that are just... sad. It could be just one line or the entire chorus. Let's see how maudlin this thread can get.

I'll start with something simple (nothing too heavy for an appetiser):

"Now I wait by the phone, in the dark, drunk on hope..." - Rascal Flatts, Once

"I don't want to know it's over, so save your goodbye kiss! I don't want to know it's over because ignorance is bliss! Now, I know I can't stay sober because you left me hear like this!"- Hinder ("Bliss")

"I try to live the light of day. Why would I do what I hate? But when I try to reach above, I only hurt the ones I love, yeah."

Hello friends,

This is the lines which i like as it is too sad and listen to this line very much.

They say love is just a game
They say time can heal the pain
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose
And I guess I'm just a fool
I keep holding on to you

Thank you!!

"In stitches here tonight, we are ripping the seams. I'm pushing hard to rip it loose. In stitches here tonight, we are ripping the seams. There's something missing. Children of the in-between."

"Stitches", by Switchfoot (again).
...Damn. I don't many really depressing ones... I'll have to search my brother's stash. :P

Civil War sadness!

"A letter to mother came today. Gunshot wound to the breast is what it did say. But he'll be better soon, he's in a hospital bed. But he'll never be better, he's already dead."
-Bob Dylan, 'Cross The Green Mountain

I get the chills when I hear that line.

"Loneliness is always looking for a friend
It found me once and it has been around since then
Loneliness is never waiting by the door
It sweeps right through and it will never be ignored
Why, why was I chosen?
Why am I left without?"

- Westlife ("Loneliness knows me by name")

"She's like a swallow that flies so high, she's like the river that never runs dry, she's like the sunshine on the lee shore. She loved her love...but she'll love no more."
- She's Like the Swallow, traditional ballad.

The darkness
The sweetness
The sadness
The weakness
I need this
You better shut your mouth
Hold your breath
Kiss me now you'll catch my death"

There ain't no drug to make me well.
There ain't no drug,
There ain't no drug,
It's not enough.

"Doctor, Doctor, won't you please perscribe me something? A day in the life of someone else? Because I'm a hazard to myself. Don't let me get me. I'm my own worst enemy. I don't want to be my friend no more. I want to be somebody else."- Pink

"How many lovers would stay just to put up with this shit day after day? How do we wind up this way? Watching our mouths for the words that we say?"- "Absolutely" (I forget who wrote it.)

"You'd think that I'd learn my lesson by now
You'd think that I'd somehow figure out
That if you strike that match
You're bound to feel the flames
You'd think that I'd learn the cost of love
And paid that price long enough
But still I drive myself right through the pain
Yeah, well it turns out
I haven't learned a thing"

-- Chris Daughtry (Learn My Lesson)

"When your only friends are hotel rooms
Hands are distant lullabyes.
If I could turn around, I would tonight.
These roads never seemed so long
Since your paper heart stopped beating
Leaving me suddenly alone."
-Paperthin Hymn, Anberlin

"Got a cricket for a conscience always looks the other way
A cocaine soul starts seeming like an empty cabaret
Hey, where have all the dancers gone? Now the music doesn't play
Tried to listen to the river but you couldn't shut your mouth
Better take a little time to level out"

If The Brakeman Turns My Way, Bright Eyes.

I love depressing lyrics, so much more emotion wrapped up in them.

Well I wish I could kill you,
savor the sight.
Get in to my car, drive into the night.
Then lie as I scream to the heavens above.
That I was the last one you ever loved.
Yes, your skin is like porcelain.

Porcelain, Better Than Ezra

"If it doesn't break your heart, it isn't love.
Yeah, if it doesn't break your heart, it's not enough.
It's when you're breaking down,
With your insides coming out,
It's when you find out what your heart is made of."
