December 5 is Ninja Day, an international holiday which brings millions together to celebrate their love...of ninjas. If you're interested in its history, check the Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_Ninja#Day_of_the_Ninja). Oddly enough, one explanation for its origin goes back 1400 years. And funnily enough, the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie was released on Ninja Day in 2006. Bet you didn't know that. :P

So, for today only, we've got a special logo and scroll images on the main page. Open scrolls have new posts, closed ones do not.

Lasting a few more days will be a special set of ninja smilies! Some are just ninja. Some are for ninja writers, and two are from Naruto, because they're amusing.

To join the fun, you can check out the thread where we discuss which groups should be added to the ninja/pirate debate (in the common room)

Ultimate Showdown (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/showthread.php?t=360)

And also, whether ninja hamsters or pirate hamsters are better (in debate):

Hamsters (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/showthread.php?t=355)

And lastly, the polls section asks the true question, whether pirates or ninjas are better:

Poll (http://www.youngwritersonline.net/showthread.php?t=364)

And if you're in need of a laugh, check out the Ask a Ninja Podcast. Ninja answers your questions while flailing his arms about and jumping around the room:

Ask A Ninja (http://askaninja.com/)

Pirates vs Ninjas Dodgeball (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirates_Vs._Ninjas_Dodgeball), anyone?

Talk Like A Pirate Day is September 19. In order to be politically correct, we will celebrate it as well when it comes.

Ahahah! Typical of Andy to make the most cuckoo events special and interesting!

I love the Naruto smilies. What's their code?

Edit: never mind. I see it.

You did not just link a Wikipedia page on our site...Andy...of all the things you should be clearing with me that is of the highest priority... :lookout:

P.S.: I don't see the codes. I just guessed that the lookout one was with the : :'s on it...

I knew in advance that Shaun would say something. :D

But really, where else will you find a history of Ninja Day? Tell me!

The fact that you can't find it anywhere else leads me to suspect it's invalid.

By the way, the only thing that gives pirates any push is that my girlfriend is a pirate and POTC came out. That's it. Before nobody was paying attention to pirates and ninjas were kicking completely butt.

The codes are right below the smilies, in order. You just need to add the :: to each end and you have yourself a smiley.

I'm not a pirate, I just happen to think they're cool. *Sniff*

And I've been into pirates since I was very small. I was playing Peter Pan and the Pirates in the playground at age seven. So there. PotC just reminded me of my life-long passion for pirateness.

That's adorable. :) Did you dress as a pirate for Halloween sometimes?

Pirates in the Playground? Is that another one of those UK-only shows?

XD No. Peter Pan and The Pirates was a US cartoon in the early 90s, which starred Peter Pan ... and pirates. Obviously. It was brilliant, and me and my best friend were obsessed, so we used to play it a lot. She was always Peter Pan, and I was Wendy or Tinkerbell depending on my mood. We usually recruited a boy to be a pirate, but they never played with us more than once. Wimps.

And no, I never dressed as a pirate on Halloween. We didn't have appropriate costume gear. :(

I take back what I said about the decorations coming down after a day. I like those scrolls too much. :D So, we'll give them an extra week. Smilies will stay for that long as well.
