Has anyone gone to the good 'ol movie theater in the last couple of days? If so, what did you see? Did you like it?

G.I. Joe - Abuses the Rule of Cool. (Rule of Cool - Explosions and CGI, but little plot). Ninjas were the only thing that made it worth seeing. Snake Eyes for the win. So/so
Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen - Abuses the Rule of Cool as well. Optimus Prime was pure badass. JarJarBinksian characters. (Racist stereotypes). So/so (don't watch if you are easily offended by JarJarBinksians.)

I saw Revenge of the Fallen too. Optimus was awesome :)
The last movie I saw was Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince but that was a few weeks ago. What can I say, except for the ridiculously shitty ending, I loved it ^^ Of course, when it comes to HP, I'm biased but if you haven't seen it....WATCH IT!
There's nothing out right now in the theaters that I really want to see; I would see G.I. Joe only for the sake of seeing channing tatum but it doesn't look like it's worth $10:rolleyes:

Ice Age 3 - Amusing. A little more mature than the average kid's movie (Implied BDSM, implied sexual jokes, etc.) Not highly recommended, but it's an alright watch.
Star Trek - Rule of Cool yet again though it has an interesting plot (Blasphemy against the Rule of Cool!). Many nostalgic moments for die hard Trekkies, but it has a chance to anger hard core Trekkies. Recommended.

Saw "District 9" on my birthday. Amazing film. It really is probably the best thing I've seen in theaters all year. I saw it twice, gonna go see it again soon.
Then I saw "Inglorious Basterds" today. All I can say is, Quentin Tarantino is back to form! It's like Pulp Fiction but with Nazis! Incredible movie. Just like Pulp, you really had no idea what was going to happen next!
I also saw "A Perfect Getaway" recently. It was decent. Probably more of a DVD rental though.

I watched Push.
I liked the movie so much that I was almost sure it had been based off a book, but sadly it wasnt :(
And yes, I watched both movies Bowie mentioned too, but I disliked both. Transformers II was a bit funny though, but both had zero plot, I could barely stand watching G. I. Joe thru.
Ice Age 3 is decent. I laughed quite a few times, and I don't laugh much at movies.
Oh and I also watched Spirit. Not on the theathers though, on DVD, but I'm mentioning it so nobody else wastes their money. Don't rent it. I can stand Telletubbies. I like Backyardigans. I managed to to sleep at "The Happening". But I just couldn't stand watching Spirit. I gave up on the last 20 mins of the movie, which means I deserve a medal!

"The Ugly Truth" - you've probably all seen it, seeing as I'm...what? A whole two weeks behind America? Pshaw. Wah-ever.
Twas awesome! Loved it supremely. Especially the restaurant scene. Hilarious!!! xP
I'm going to see Coraline tomorrow. ^_* Yay!

District 9 - effing amazing film by Peter Jackson.
G.I. Joe - Oh my God. I can't keep a straight face without talking about this movie. The entire thing was like watching a kid play with the toys - loud, random and obnoxious. It's all, "BOOM BOOM KA-POWIE YEAAAH DUKE! YES! GO! PPPPRAAAA PEW PEW PEW CHIC-CHIC-BOOOOOM! OH NO COBRA COMMANDER! PEWWWW!!!! PRAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yeah. .
I want to see Inglorious Basterds.
Btw, what was up with Brenden Fraser being in G.I. Joe? o_O
Terminator IV *Insert catchy overused cliche sub title here* Don't see it. DON'T. Me and my family went to see it, and all of us were bored out of our minds. Bowie's Rule Of Cool used to an extreme. It's like the previous terminator films but too much mindless explosions and barren wasteland, and not enough Arnie and proper action scenes. It sucked.

I saw the Half Blood Prince the other day- it was awesome, but the ending was cringe-fully corny. Today I am seeing another sci-fi flick set in Africa about racism... I dunno, it sounds pretty weird, but my father is desperate to see it, so... I know its going to be good, because the reviews were splendid, so I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes. Its called District 9.

Stephen Sommers who directed G.I. Joe also directed The Mummy series so he gave Brendan Fraser and the guy who plays Imothep a cameo in the movie. I thought it was pretty funny =) And I can't think of a better way to describe the movie than how you just did Scotty. I liked it too =)

I went to go see Coraline today, as I mentioned earlier.
Twas gnarlicious and awesome. Rather than taking away from the book (which is probably the most original and intriguing book I've read in a while), it added to it - any scenes that were added in were all done according to character, and to aid in telling what couldn't be told apart from through long monologues.
I was sad that they'd cut out the Shakespearean speeches of one of the ghosts, and that they'd cut out the really sweet memories that Coraline replays towards the end, but apart from that, it was awesome! Not as scary as the book, but still. Awesome!
I really recommend it - but don't take anyone younger than about 8. They'll be absolutely terrified of little doors for AGES. Oh. And round objects.

Really? Stephen Sommers? I thought he'd do better then honestly. Though the third Mummy movie was not Stephen Sommers. It was some douchebag named Brett Ratner. Or no, that was Rush Hour 3. Who directed the third Mummy movie? I think it WAS Brett Ratner. I dunno. Whoever it was sucked balls.

Yeah Brett Ratner was X Men 3 and Rush Hour 3 (-.-) The Mummy 3 was Rob Cohen (xXx and the first Fast and the Furious) make of that what you will but I think he sucked at the mummy too.
By the way guys, District 9? Amazing! that's all there is to say

I saw 'Funny People'. Way too many bad words, and graphical scenes that made me wrinkle my face in disgust.
Also, at one point Adam Sandler gets up to say grace and instead gives a huge speech on how we should all be glad we're still alive and haven't died terribly painful deaths. Nobody noticed he never mentioned God...
Don't watch it, it also has some of those yelling/screaming arguments in it that make you feel ashamed to be human.

I've also seen Coraline, which I LOVED, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which was definitely put together for the enjoyment of 8-10 year old males. It was so-so.

Really? Shame, I thought it looked pretty funny in the trailer.
Graphic scenes? Explain, please...

I completely disagree with you.
"Funny People" was a masterpiece. I laughed a lot. Not sure what jokes fell flat on you but there were some great lines in there.
"You shouldn't have lost all that weight, Ira! Nobody likes seeing fit people tell jokes. Do you want to see Lance Armstrong do comedy?"
That is just hilarious.
It wasn't supposed to be a movie like "Epic Movie", it had a story and that is what it was centered around. Sure, the trailers made it out to be this hilarious movie through and through, but it was still very good.
"He's Australian! You know what they do to people who piss 'em off? They kill them and make them into hats!"
Come on! That's great.

See this is why I glorify Zombie's movie tastes because I agree with him 100%. I thought Funny People was hilarious and have no idea which jokes exactly fell flat. My only quip with the movie was that the ending seemed kind of... incomplete. It was long already and then they just ended it at that table, it seemed unfinished.
When Adam Sandler says grace.... well I thought that was a great scene and I don't think that him not mentioning God makes the movie bad or gives it any less value....

Well, to understand my viewpoint on the grace thing you have to realize that I'm a hardcore Christian, so my concept of grace is more traditional and less self-glorifying.
And the graphic scenes... I really didn't enjoy watching Sandler do those girls, especially since they were at least topless (that's all it showed on screen, so I don't know about the rest). I don't look at 'tasteful' female nudity, as some would have it called, and therefore it disgusts me when someone shoves it in my face. Especially the big screen in the theater.
I will admit the movie did make me laugh, but for all the time it took, along the choice verbiage, I think there are better things to do with our time.

Well, there ya go.
Of course a Christian right winger is gonna hate seein' Sandler bang those girls. A middle aged Jew banging a young black chick? Now that's some crazy shit! But the talking snake and the virgin birth and the man who lived in the whale, that I get. *Sigh* Oh, religion.
That was hilarious to me though. He's an old man and the girls only do him so they can say, "Yeah, I did the Merman!"
And that scene where he says grace, are you really that upset that a JEW didn't thank God for his food in a COMEDY movie that had a lot of JEWS in it?
I just don't get why a silly book of fairy tales has to ruin a good movie for you.
-ADDED IN COMMENTARY CREATED TO AVOID GIANT DEBATE ABOUT RELIGION IN A MOVIE THREAD-
In order to save this thread from becoming an argument about religion, I will say this, "I simply think bashing a movie because it's un-christian is just stupid, but hey, what do I know? I'm just a liberal. :D
I think this may become a debate about religion despite your added in commentary *sigh*. Why is it that debates about religion are so unavoidable on this site?

I'm gonna input my thoughts into the argument above Bowie, namely because I haven't seen any moves since D-9, and don't know what Bowie's talking about lol
So, listopher, the movie is rated R (here in the US) for "language and crude sexual humour throughout, and some sexuality"... You can't blast a movie for having the things you mentioned that you didn't like about it when it's so blatantly presented to you... (In my opinion, at least)
And I agree with Zomb, don't expect God to be brought up in a movie where most, if not all, the mains are Jewish

lol, I guess not. It wasn't what I expected though, and to be honest, I think it's better that non-Christians refrain from saying real prayers in movies, or else everyone will think they're Christians, y'know?
I also saw G-Force, with the hamsters. Juarez cracked me up. An excellent look into the female psyche.

No, I don't know. They're actors, they are supposed to be portraying other people.

I am steering away from G-Force, it looks too...family orientated.

Yeah, I know. I was speaking about the characters being portrayed. Like, if you saw a 'Christian' character running around killing people you would know that he wasn't a real Christian. But if the character on screen is a comedian using questionable language and inviting young girls to his bedroom, and he prays to God... people will make this face --> o.O
G-Force was family oriented because it had something for all ages. There was female psychology (which could make children's brains explode) and at the same time most of the characters were 3d rendered hamsters - not your typical cast for an adult film. You could still enjoy it though, I couldn't help but smile and laugh at some of the scenes.

Last night I was able to see Inglorious Bastards. The acting was good, but it lacked substance and meaning. The plot and characters were poorly developed. The historical inaccuracy was disappointing. However, the shots, irony/humor, music and set up were done well. The main issue for me was the lack of meaning in the vengeance - it seemed it was done just to make the movie look cool, just for the shot and some action. And something about it was just disturbing and absolutely hateful. I was reminded how much I hated war.
Anyway, I didn't really like the film after the first hour or so. It just went downhill. ^^;

Indeed, it's something more along the lines of:
"Greetings, Earthling."
"Are you human?"
"No, we are Aliens."
"Aliens? THEN FUCKING DIE!!!!"

I was going to go see District 9, but it's rated R. Then I wanted to see The Men Who Stare At Goats. Rated R as well. Then came along Zombieland. Again, rated R. The MPAA is determined to undermine my movie needs.

But DEFINITELY watch Sherlock Holmes.
