I was wondering...is there anyway you can raise the popularity of your work besides critting. Critting is good, but sometimes people take it for granted and don't return the favor. I think their should be an area where people can post a good Synopsis of their work.

Hm....I'm not sure. And I know it can be annoying if people don't return the favor. We made these critique chain threads when the site was made, where people critique the person above them, but nobody really used them. They're stickies:

If those threads became popular, then you'd be guaranteed to get a critique, since the next person to post there would have to do yours.

Just remember, I do owe you one critique from earlier, and I will return the favor as soon as this workload clears up. ;)

I was wondering, for the chain crit. thread, could you possibly mix the poetry and stroy one together? I think it'd be more active/helpful that way.

I guess we could. *Goes to do it*

One thing you should also do is send PMs to people to sort of create a group of people who will crit each other's work. This way you know you'll always get crits. One thing we do need to work on here is getting people to crit more.

Maybe we should hold a campaign or something to increase crits?

Or, we could have that thing they have on Necrotania where it talks a little about your novel...maybe that will give people an idea of whats going on and that'll make them interested about your work...

I made a Novel Blurbs thread if anyone is interested? :D

Where is the Novel Blurbs Thread at, Raf?

Maybe we could have Workshop, like there was on TW. If it goes ahead, I get dibs on the head of it. I seriously need to do more critting...

Where is the Novel Blurbs Thread at, Raf?

It's in the Commons Room, below (or above) the Ultimate Showdown thread...

a sure fire way to make sure your writing is popular is to write what sells nowadays. murder mysteries, fantasy. but remember, there is a difference between good literature and popular literature.

Shaun

Actually, no there isn't. There's no difference between good and popular.

Uh....you're joking, right? I can't find a smiley.

Every good book is popular, every popular book is good?

jordanisonfire

Yeah, since when has that been true? Not every good book is popular, though not every popular book will be good. It's possible for popular books to be good ones and it's possible for bad books to be unpopular.

Because what defines a book as a good book has nothing to do with its popularity. Popular fiction doesn't automatically mean suckage.

Exactly. There's no difference between popular fiction and good fiction. Good fiction is nothing more than a subjective category.

in most cases modern popular fiction means "suckage."

Just because something is popular fiction doesn't mean that it will suck just as someone that is literary fiction doesn't mean it will be good. The label "popular fiction" has practically nothing to do with a novel's value or goodness.
