View Full Version : Hi, I am new
Hi, I am Alaa Magdy. I am going to publish my book at Dorrance publishing co. So I would love some information about. I 13 years old girl. I live at qatar:rolleyes:
Welcome, Alaa! I'm Lily; the crazy person... well, at least one of them at YWO. :D Apparently, there are many of us here. But I don't bite. As for others, I can't say. Their critiques might be a lot harsher than mine; I'm still pretty new, too.
I have lots of questions: What do you like to write? When did you start writing? What's your book called?? When you say information, do you mean about writing, editing, the publishing company...?
Anyway, I wish you luck with the book publishing!! --Lily :)

xP Wait...are we talking about newb eating?! *stomach rumbles*
Never fear, new girl. I'm not one to worry about. I'm probably the least of your fears, considering you don't seem to take yourself too seriously. ^_* We'll get along just fine, I should hope. ^_*
Much grinnage!

Welcomes, Alaa. You can find a lot of help concerning literature in the Excercises. They really help you improve your craft, and they're quite fun. ^^
Anyway, as long as you're a good little newb, Summer, Miss_Smiley and I will not eat you. However, if you are a bad newb, we may be forced to cannibalize you.
Have fun, dear!

Don't worry about the aforementioned three. They're all talk. If I see anything wrong with your work though, I will try to critique it to the best of my ability.

Of course we're all talk. But it IS fun to see their reaction once they find out that we're the ok-but-weird-and-possibly-deranged ones. xP
Thanks to lily, majyak, midsummernightsdream, miss smiley, fiction, Bowie20049 and iridescence: D I really love what you guys said this. I am looking forward to talk to all of you guys. An fortunately I didn't publish my book but I am working with a magazine called "ink magazine" I hope to talk to you soon.

Well, Alaa, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Dorrance is a scam publisher that preys on authors, particularly young and naive ones like yourself. You should NEVER pay a publisher to print your book. Ever. I can't stress this enough. If you are paying a publisher, the publisher is not legit and your book will not sell worth a damn. You'll end up forking out loads of money and get almost nothing in return.
You should Google info about the company. A lot of people have been screwed by them.
Now, as for the other place, I don't see anything about them, so do you know where they are located, etc.? There's an Ink Magazine associated with Cornell, but I'm not sure that's the one you're talking about.
And now that I've said all that, welcome to the site. Hopefully you'll learn a lot of nifty stuff here. Make sure to read the rules and what not and please check out Survival By Storytelling, YWO's official magazine. It publishes young authors like yourself, and pays them! Many YWO members are in the first issue. Help us make sure a second comes true by grabbing yourself a copy! Links are at the top of my signature! Support young writers!
And that's enough from me. Welcome!

Alaa,
Nope, it's not. See here: http://accrispin.blogspot.com/2007/02/happy-valentines-day-from-writer-beware.html <--it's on the bottom of the post itself.
It's a scam publisher that is responsible for a number of things that are not good for authors.
