View Full Version : Namaste!
Hello! I'm Susan.
Here's some fast and rather unimportant facts about myself.
* I'm 16, and I have never written anything professional that received some form of formal review or cashola. Hm.
* I was born in Bombay, India.
* I almost got a failing grade in 7th grade English for writing a story that was considered "too risque" (It was only about the Vietnam War, and I had mentioned a pile of dead, raped bodies. Geez!)
* I love tacos. Not necessarily Mexican, albeit those are my favorite.
* Growing up, my father told me to always "watch a rock grow" (as stupid as that sounds) and it had a profound effect on me. Instead of turning out into those prepubescent girly girls, I remained a steadfast philosophical young adult. Nevertheless, I was still a happy "odd" girl.
* I was a Pokemon maniac as a child. I could talk for hours about Pokemon, and I completed..all the Gameboy games. I'm a sad case, I know.
* Even worse: I'm addicted to Sims.
* I love a good book as much as I love a good cup of chai in the morning.
If you have anymore, just ask! I promise I'll answer.
Thanks for having me here! :pirate:

Hello, Susan.
It looks like we have something in common: addiction to Pokemon and the Sims.
What genre do you like?

Welcome to YWO, ruse. You seem like a fairly cool newb.
How long have you been writing?
What genre do you tend to write in?
What genres have you written in?
What do you like to read?
When did you become serious about writing?
The old Pokemon stuff is still amazing. ;P Sims rocks. That "watch a rock grow" thing made me feel very zen. <_<
Once again, welcome to YWO.
EDIT: Darn you, Mercy, I wanted to be the first person to greet the newbie!

What genre do you like?
Of literature? Good ol' fiction. Of music? Indie/Alternative. My tastes range from M.I.A. to Franz Ferdinand to Passion Pit.

How long have I been writing? I reckon since second grade, when I probably had an essay over my mom or something like that. I stick primarily with fiction. Confession: I used to be a big Naruto fan and did a LOT of extremely popular Naruto fanfiction. One story hit over 1k reviews...but it just wasn't me.
I read everything, but I prefer very good fiction. Emphasis on very good.
I've never been serious about writing. Nothing really to be serious about.

Fiction was implied - I meant what sort of fiction. Realism, fantasy, sci-fi?
I enjoy M.I.A and Passion Pit. =3 Although I've been preoccupied with Elka (Russian) and LaFee (German).

Oh! My bad. Well, I do like some historical fiction. I like surrealist literature as well.

Ah, it's cool. :)
I've been meaning to write historical fiction. What times era do you prefer?

I love the Edo Period in Japan. The Exploration Age, when the whole world has opened its sleepy eyes and is starting to look around for the first time. Medieval fiction is hard to pull of, I believe, but I've read some great stuff.

I'd like to write some fiction from the 1920s, America and World War II. But I really love the ancient world. ^^

I would love to read some of that! 1920s fiction is great, very cute in a sophisticated and fashionable way. American fiction always has that 'oomph' that hits home. Even World War II has some hard hitting emotions going on.

Oomph? I don't know...I'd like to read historical fiction from other parts of the world. :)
Feel free to PM me if you need a crit.

Don't worry about Summer. She's all bark unlike me and Saint Jacky. We will pillage and rape your writing. Unless it's good of course.

Hullo, Susan! I'm Iri. You seem like an intelligent newb. Many welcomes to you. I also enjoy historical fiction, and I agree with you about American fiction's "oomph", as well. But historical fiction from other countries...now that sounds interesting. One thing I have trouble with, however, is the lack of Native American historical fiction in today's market. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but there just aren't that many from where I've seen. I'd like to read more about their history. I find their culture very interesting.
Anyhoo, a bit off topic. Don't worry about the cannibals/rapists/Vikings that lurk across this site. It's all in good fun. Most of the time. ^_^

You are so a cannibal too. Anyway, hello, tender newb, I think I will spare your life due to the fact that you seem cool...:)

I read a very good Native American book last year, Iri. It's called Apache by Tanya Landman.
Anyway, welcome to the site, Susan. :)

Eeeek! Thank you, Lily. *runs off to find book*
Congratulations, you are officially the best newb we have had here in a very long time...
What? Don't look at me like that; there's no prize.
Well, Ruse, welcome to YWO!
