I need some help from you guys! I have a big problem with writing like my favorite author, so do you guys have any solutions? I would really appreciate it! The author's style just doesn't fit in with the story's idea and plot.

You don't have to write in another's style. Just make up your own

First off, The Newbie Zone isn't really the place for questions. Writing Q & A would be better.

And you shouldn't write like your favorite author, you should write in your own style.

I agree with the above posts. You can lightly mimic his/her style, until you find your own, but don't straight-out copy it. Read, read, read, and write, write, write - that's the best voice-finding advice you will be given.

Well, they've probably read that a good way to learn to write is to write like an author they respect or enjoy, so this is why they're doing this.

My recommendation is to realize that writing like them isn't really what is important, but picking up certain bits of their style is. What you should do is simply look at how they structure sentences (do they use semicolons, colons, dashes, etc.?--do they have occasional run-ons, do they end sentences with ellipses, etc.). Then try it in a short story. It may not work but you'll find that trying it can give you other ideas. The most important thing is just to incorporate such things into your own work and then allow your brain to adjust them so they become a part of your style, rather than theirs. But this is not going to happen overnight, or over a whole week. It takes a lot of time and work to get to a point where you have your own style.

Hopefully that helps.
