HEY HEY HEY PEOPLE! COME ON DOWN!

Here's a little game I made up called, "NAME THAT PROSE!"

I think I did this a very long time ago but the rules were somewhat skewered.

So I'll make it short, sweet, simple and to the point.

We all love to read, right? I mean, that's why we're here after all! Right folks?

Well now, let's share our knowledge of books by posting a random passage from our favorite stories. The next poster has to name that book (AND THE AUTHOR!) and then post his/her own passage from another book. Any genre is allowed, even non-fiction.
If no one seems to be getting the answer for a while, like weeks, then I'll update and change it to a new piece of prose.

Don't repeat books. Sequels are okay.

And please don't make the passages too long either.

So everyone, dash to your shelves and let's go and NAME THAT PROSE!

I'll start with an easy one I hope most of you should know by now.

"It eluded us then, but that's no matter--to-morrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . .And one fine morning---
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

In the nighttime heart of Beirut, in one of a row of general-address transfer booths, Louis Wu flicked into reality.

Ringworld by Larry Niven

I saw him lying in the snow. I saw where the Drifter had left him.

Sight by Adrienne Maria Vrettos

First God made heaven & earth 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

Bet you guys can't get this one /sarcasm

The Bible - Genesis, by . . . lots and lots of people. :P

'I returned form the city about three o'clock on that May afternoon pretty well disgusted with my life. I had been three months in the Old Country, and was fed up with it. If anyone would have told me a year ago that I would have been feeling like that, I should have laughed at him; but there was the fact.'

No one? No one knows this? If no one gets this by the end of this week, I'm changing it.

EDIT: Oh wow, I actually. . read that book. Didn't like it anyway. Probably why I didn't care to really think about it. >_>

Thirty-Nine Steps -- John Buchan

Two screens into my demo to Microsoft, I taste blood and have to start swallowing. My boss doesn't know the material, but he won't let me run the demo with a black eye and half my face swollen from the stitches inside my cheek.

Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk ??

That's when it happen. Halfway through our seventh-grade musical, on the second riser, in front of half the population of Dressel Hills, Colorado, I felt dizzy. Faces in the audience began to blur. Heat rushed to my throbbing head. With a mouth drier than Arizona, I gasped for breath. Then my knees buckled and. . . I black out!

Best friend, worst enemy, from the Holly Heart series?
(Wow, I had to ask my little cousin for that one...!)

"It was some consolation to think that he would soon fall at the edge of her blade - and that in less than a fornight she should herself be with Jane again, and anabled to contribute to the recovery of her spirits, beginning with the presentation of Darcy's heart and head. She could not think of Darcy without remembering his cousin, for agreeable as he was, Colonel Fitzwilliam was also the one man who could assign the guilt of Darcy's slaying to Elizabeth. He would have to be dispensed with as well."

Pride and Prejudice (and Zombies just to be safe) Jane Austen if not Seth Grahame-Smith

The monitor lady smiled very nicely and tousled his hair and said, “Andrew, I suppose by now you’re just absolutely sick of having that horrid monitor. Well, I have good news for you. That monitor is going to come out today. We’re going to take it right out, and it won’t hurt a bit.”

For his tongue is exceeding pure so that it has in purity what it wants in musick.
