Defect by Will Weaver is about a fifteen year old boy by the name of David. He's a pretty normal boy, except for one huge detail . . . He has a Defect. He happens to have wings, but not the type a bird has. David's expand and retract. He has, from what to book describes, big, bug eyes that attract attention to himself.
After David pulls a prank on some people at his high school that tease him, he gets sent to a different school. There he meets a girl named Cheetah with a type of Defect of her own. She gets massive seizures. It finally comes down to whether David should keep his wings, or go through a surgery to "fix" the problem and get his face "redone."

Will Weaver did an excellent job with this book, and if you happen to find it in a bookstore or at your library, I suggest you pick it up and give it a try.
